OT- WTF is Holtz sayin?

Submitted by jtmc33 on
Yeah, I've had a few vodkas tonight. But, jesus (and not Touchdown Jesus), I'm watching the halftime of the Oregon / Boise St. game right now and I honestly have no idea what the hell Lou Holtz is saying. He just went on about OSU playing Navy in the first game and going from 2-a-days to preparing for Navy's offense and "sfffsty soffalphphyphys a phfffssss"... what? Cartoon characters are fun, and funny. But I like my college football analysts to be knowledgeable and respectable. F him. F ESPN for letting him talk, or lispy-lisp. (No offense to those with lisps, I just don't want to hear any of you on national tv talking about my favorite sport either.... just continue to write on blogs)

Holtz was saying this: 1. Ohio State will spend a bunch of preseason time preparing for Navy, but Navy's unconventional offense will mean that all that preparation time is not usable for the other 11 games on the schedule. He questions the wisdom of scheduling Navy when this prep time will be wasted and the "real" defense installed in week 2. 2. Navy's offense is very physical and almost every team that plays them comes out of the game with a tired defensive line and possibly some injuries. Mark May thinks this is a serious disadvantage for the USC game the next week. Despite complaints from opponents, Navy does not "chop block" except by occasional accident. They do block below the waist, which is legal in the proper circumstances. As Holtz noted, it would be almost unthinkable for a service academy to coach its team to cheat on every play. It is interesting to look at Navy's opponents the week after they play Navy. Almost always, the team suffers a letdown from the beating they take, whether they won or lost. Example: Stanford beat Navy 41-38 in 2005, then lost to UC Davis the next week in a lame defensive effort.

Holtz meant that.... but he was no where near actually saying that. You should work for ESPN. Maybe as a Holtz-translator, you could be in one of those little bubbles in the bottom right-corner usually reserved for the hearing impaired. but I actually like Lou Holtz. He's funny, and a hell of a lot better than Mark Mays. Yeah, he's a Notre Dame homer, but he coached there, so I expect a little homerism. Just take Lou for what he is - a good coach that did his time and now he's just trying to make a living entertaining the viewers. That's what Lou Holtz is, entertainment. He's one of the few college football commentators that can make me laugh.

I agree with this, but I wish Holtz would come out with more hard-core football analysis and not just the motivational-speech angle. For all his faults and NCAA violations, he was a great hands-on X's and O's coach and I'd like to see more of that on the show. I wish Bo was on Gameday Final...he'd be breaking down film left and right!

has taken their skits way too far this year. From the horrible music intro's to the Tebow speech reinactment. I wish they would quit trying to be a part of the entertainment and just let the games work their magic.
