OT: World Cup Qualifier - USA @ Jamaica, 8:30pm CDT, BeIN Network

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa on June 7th, 2013 at 7:53 PM

After a nice 4-3 win over Germany in a friendly, the USA is back on the World Cup qualifying trail, facing Hexagonal foe Jamaica in Kingston, Jamaica.  The field is probably really dry and pathetic, and so expect some weird bounces.

USA, as always, will hope to pull off the road draw.  Jamaica currently is in deep trouble after a loss to Mexico on Tuesday, putting them in last place.  USA is right now in fourth place in the group, with a draw or win against Jamaica keeping the Yanks in the fight for an auto-qualifier top three spot.

In International Games, the home team owns the global rights. So in this case, BeIN purchased the US rights for this game from Jamaica. It is likely it was part of a package deal, as ESPN would of course have no interest in a bundle of Jamaica games, just this one. So this is not a case of 'lack of respect for US soccer' but rather the screwy international TV rights getting in the way.

This is not news, BeIn replaced Goltv at the start of this year's Euro season (i.e. August/Sept), got rights to certain US games, as well as Bundesliga, ligue 1 and la liga, and europa league too.

It's on comcast, timewarner and directv, which probably covers well over half the US (just a wild ass guess)

I've honestly had no problems in the 6 years I've had it in Ann Arbor. The first place I moved into here, the tech spent 3 hours to run new lines throughout the whole even though I paid no installation fee.

Never had service problems and the one time I had a problem with my box it took me all of 15 minutes at the Comcast store to exchange it for a new one.
