"I don't know, Jim. There's obviously something wrong with him. He's taken off his shoes and one of his socks and...actually, I think he's crying."

he had a great year for atletico, but he isn't the same kind of player as a david villa. he seems pretty oafish out there.

EDIT: haha as soon as i write that, he goes and pulls out an unreal ball with the bike

I wouldn't blame the ref at all. I don't think FIFA or any other governing body has made it a priority. Chile can do it sure but it certainly takes away from the performance for me. Leaves a bad taste after a well played game.

I just don't like something being called part of the game when it has nothing to do with playing soccer.

What I think they should do is have someone actually keep track of the amount of time lost during all the stoppages and add them up, so there is no mystery and it's not just an arbitrary decision by the referee ("Hmm, that felt like 3 minutes.")  The total amount of stoppage time is probably a lot more than we think - it might be more like 7-8 minutes in a typical half.

Well called game by Mark Geiger, who is from New Jersey. This is his second match of the tournament after the Greece match. I expect him to get another match after this performance.

And Del Bosque is accepting, I watched it last game. All they talked about last game, it drove me crazy. "Well, we got a couple of shots." YOU'RE LOSING BY FOUR GOALS.

Spain and Del Bosque have become completely accepting of this garbage. "Oh, we'll go out there tomorrow." They have not scored more than 2 goals in a week! You have to go back to the 50's, the black hole of Spanish football. This team has reached a low point that is unbelievable!

And the thing that we talked about and raved about Vicente Del Bosque is that he was not accepting of this gawbage. He has become accepting! Last game, he wasn't even angry after the game! And did you see Costa miss that shot? If I saw that in a little league game I'd be upseht!

This is Spanish World Cup soccer? You're actually paying to watch this? The eight people that were there today, give them their money back! You've got to be kidding me! If I were the manager I'd jump off the roof, if that was my team!

You forget one thing! They just got lost two games by a total of 7-2! They didn't lose to Brazil! They didn't lose to Germany!

"Well, we're in these games." He's starting to sound like Kotitte!

Listen, we gave them credit when they deserved it this year, but I have never seen a team die like this team. They have guys on this team now who don't know what they're supposed to do on the field! They're getting beat by 4 goals!

I'm not watching anymore, because I get so mad, I can't take it.

And the one thing that we said about Vicente Del Bosque, and he said about himself is "We are not accepting of an attitude that is losing, of mediocrity, of mistakes." And now he has been beaten down to the point where he is completely accepting of their garbage. He was last game, he was today, and that means total death for his team. I don't need to ask Vicente any more if this team has quit on him. I know it has.

Spain's elimination is fantastic news for fans of Michigan football.  History has taught us that the fortunes of the two are inversely correlated:

From 1968-2007, Michigan had 40 consecutive non-losing seasons - 39 of them winning seasons.  Over that same time, Spain won nothing in international play.  The closest they came?  1984, when they reached the final of the Euro.  That also happened to be Michigan's one non-winning season during that stretch.

Then in 2008, Spain broke through, winning the Euro.  As for Michigan football, well, we know.  Spain won more tournaments in 2010 and 2012 and Michigan football was mired in mediocrity.

This is the break we needed.  Michigan will be back!

...is there a manlier act than trying to head butt a player that's sitting on the ground?

Nice effort, Mr. Song. Might very well have out-Pepe'd Pepe with that one.

Okay so I am a ref and a geek but the USA crew who did the Chile-Spain match did a very solid job in a tournament that has had some poor officiating. USA men's soccer and officiating gets crap from the Euros in particular (some deservedly) and it was just nice to see our boys do well.
