Wow, what a finish by the Swiss.  Kudos to that Swiss player on getting fouled, but just popping right back up on the run to keep possesion of the ball and play the advantage.  That's the reason they won.

The game was almost perfectly called and I liked the refs decisiveness and control of his emotions. The Swiss offsides on the dummy ball was not correct but was a very difficult call to make for the AR because it was tipped (unfortunately by the defender, not by the man playing a beautiful dummy).

I thought that game was called quite well. One of the most well officiated games you'll see. Only thing odd was he kept letting Ecuador move the ball a good ways out of his designated stripe on free kicks. Though that was king of weird, though not impactful really. Not much point in drawing the line if they don't have to stay in it.

Yea, I can see how that was a tough call though. from the reverse angle it actually did look like the Swiss player may have chipped it. it was really only clear he didn't from the broadcast side of the field (to me anyway)

Why do American commentators/journalists insist on referring to teams in the plural when it comes to soccer, but refer to them in the singular in basically every other team sport (i.e. "Michigan is playing great defense!"....**now talking about soccer**... "America are playing great defense!"). I think they only do it because the British/Euro announcers do it and it drives me freaking crazy.

My girlfriend is in the Peace Corps in Ecuador right now. She went to mass with her host family this morning and everyone was wearing their national team jerseys. Tough ending and she says everyone is gutted

Honestly, I feel like the actual WC itself would go smoothly in Qatar, but the process by which everything is completed is where the problem is. Qatar is a wealthy country and they will have things organized because they have the money and there is no shortage of poor people in the world trying to work their way up and taking the risk of working in Qatar to do so. So if they're able to keep the bid, they'll have everything ready. But it'll have just been done in a corrupt and inhumane manner.

So you can't see that they're faking it.

When you get hurt. You don't automatically cover your face --- you also don't roll another 10 yards likely worsening the injury.

You grab what hurts and curse loudly like a normal person.

This is disgraceful...the flopping, the diving, it's gross. This is by FAR the worst display in the World Cup thus far.

And going in, I absolutely wanted France to lose, because it's France. And watching Honduras to win because they're CONCACAF. Not anymore, they're embarrasing to watch.
