I need to know which teams winning will benefit UM the most. Why hasn't anybody put out a rooting interest guide yet?
France losing benefits UM because France losing benefits everyone. Except the French.
Now that is some logic I can get behind
UM?
Rutgers beating Penn State and Maryland beating Ohio State.
USMNT?
Germany tomorrow. We want them fat, bored, and happy when they play us.
Has there been a bad game yet?
on if you're Spanish
Ba-zing!
I have 0-0, 3-0 and 1-0 predictions here. For some reason, I think the ARG-BIH game is going to be really tight.
not in this World Cup goals goals goals.
has not been as fun
Gol Ecuador!
Swiss are putting the pressure on - getting interesting.
There haven't really been any blatant dives this game. It's refreshing.
Edit: Of course as soon as I say that...
Holy Crap!
2-1 Switzerland!
GOOAAAAAAALL. Ridiculous, Ecuador doesn't take advantage of a chance on one end and The Swiss score on a great counter attack. Good game, especially the last couple of minutes.
He was attempting a perfect shot when all he needed to go was to get it on goal.
Classic over analysis. He didn't control it with the first touch, so he tried to settle it look up, then shoot. But in that case, I agree with you, just kick it on goal and maybe something good will happen even if it isn't the most controlled shot.
Yeah, that has to be a shot on 1st touch....He tried to play it, and had a bad 1st touch and couldn't get back in control before the defender stepped in.
Insane ending!!! This has been an unreal start to the World Cup. Beautiful game on full display.
Wow, what a finish by the Swiss. Kudos to that Swiss player on getting fouled, but just popping right back up on the run to keep possesion of the ball and play the advantage. That's the reason they won.
That guy is the anti-Sergio Busquets
Made the right call playing the advantage
The game was almost perfectly called and I liked the refs decisiveness and control of his emotions. The Swiss offsides on the dummy ball was not correct but was a very difficult call to make for the AR because it was tipped (unfortunately by the defender, not by the man playing a beautiful dummy).
Is it sad that we even feel the need to comment on an official making the correct call?
I thought that game was called quite well. One of the most well officiated games you'll see. Only thing odd was he kept letting Ecuador move the ball a good ways out of his designated stripe on free kicks. Though that was king of weird, though not impactful really. Not much point in drawing the line if they don't have to stay in it.
Looked like the Swiss were complaining because he didn't care if Ecuador moved the ball out but their wall line was drawn relative to the ball marker. Didn't really seem a big deal, just strange.
Well they did wrongly disallow that Swiss goal in the second half because the linesman was out of position
Yea, I can see how that was a tough call though. from the reverse angle it actually did look like the Swiss player may have chipped it. it was really only clear he didn't from the broadcast side of the field (to me anyway)
Why do American commentators/journalists insist on referring to teams in the plural when it comes to soccer, but refer to them in the singular in basically every other team sport (i.e. "Michigan is playing great defense!"....**now talking about soccer**... "America are playing great defense!"). I think they only do it because the British/Euro announcers do it and it drives me freaking crazy.
My girlfriend is in the Peace Corps in Ecuador right now. She went to mass with her host family this morning and everyone was wearing their national team jerseys. Tough ending and she says everyone is gutted
Literally or figuratively? /s
I've got Honduras in another 2-1 match.
I've arrived.
Did you know Rising Star premiere's next Sunday?
How can the Brazilians be so incompetent?
Man, I cannot even wait for Qatar's World Cup!
Honestly, I feel like the actual WC itself would go smoothly in Qatar, but the process by which everything is completed is where the problem is. Qatar is a wealthy country and they will have things organized because they have the money and there is no shortage of poor people in the world trying to work their way up and taking the risk of working in Qatar to do so. So if they're able to keep the bid, they'll have everything ready. But it'll have just been done in a corrupt and inhumane manner.
Trying to play soccer in one of the hottest places in the world in summer probably won't go well. I feel like the games themselves will be poor relative to what they could be.
in the England/Italy match where England wilted in temps that were merely low 80's with high humidity.
In Qatar, 90's
Quatar in summer can be well over 100.
I thought they just didn't show it...but I didn't have the volume up. The skipped the anthems altogether?
So you can't see that they're faking it.
When you get hurt. You don't automatically cover your face --- you also don't roll another 10 yards likely worsening the injury.
You grab what hurts and curse loudly like a normal person.
Do you mean to tell me you've never done six flips and a barrel roll after getting tripped? Then you're a better man than me. What's Jimmy Olsen doing these days Superman?
I know literally zero things about Honduras except that it's in central America but go them! Fuck France.
This is disgraceful...the flopping, the diving, it's gross. This is by FAR the worst display in the World Cup thus far.
And going in, I absolutely wanted France to lose, because it's France. And watching Honduras to win because they're CONCACAF. Not anymore, they're embarrasing to watch.
Did you not watch the qualifying games vs Honduras?
Overreactin a bit? Clearly you must have forgotten about some of the dive fasts Italy, France, and the Netherlands have put on in past World Cups.
And they finally got watch was well deserved...a second yellow and a man sent off.
