OT: Why does Delany reserve his anger for his dog?

Submitted by iawolve on

I know we can sometimes say jumbled up things, typically you try to fix them before they go to print. I was reading Delany's interview on CNNSI about his reaction to OSU. When asked if he was angry about the situation

"I was disappointed, I was surprised and I felt badly about it," Delany said. "But I kind of reserve anger for my dog. I try not to get terribly angry."

Being Jim Delany's dog must suck, what an odd thing to say. He felt "badly" that he was lied to and made a fool regarding his very public backing to allow OSU's players to play in a bowl game, but damn, that dog needs a good kick when he gets home. Jim, just stick to making us the fistfuls of the monies. Thx

First, Leaders and Legends and a crappy logo, then he supports Tressel and the tat 5 playing in the Sugar Bowl and now he beats his dog.

This man is a tool.

I am really glad someone posted this, it is the only thing I really took from the article.  I just wonder what his dog does that he can be angry, but the whole tressel thing is only dissapointing.  Seriously WTF.

"I had no knowledge whatsoever of the tattoos for memorabilia issue until I read about it in the paper. I have always alerted the NCAA to any possible violations in a timely manner whenever I have become aware of them.  I am a good boy and I believe that my body of work shows that."

It was a dumb comment in that it would definitely be taken the wrong way, but does anyone think that Delany goes home and does a Mike Vick number on his dog?

Then again, Leaders and Legends were the mark of a sociopathic sadist if I've ever seen one.

If the Dispatch was like the Freep, they could do it like this:

Jim Tressel abuses Jim Delaney's Dog

SPCA Investigation Imminent

I grab a dog. I choke him and I kick the shit out of him. All day long got my foot up a dog's ass. Just bang, bang, bang up his ass. That's my pleasure.

of these creeps just aren't up to much, got there because they shuffled along, were kicked, stayed dogged, pandered, etc. Big Ten commish sounds good, but this guy had to sniff the day old crusts in a lot of fat peoples' underwear, as an underling himself, to get there.

do you guys really not understand what he was saying? i thought you were kidding, but most of you seem serious. the point is he expects more from his dog than from a college coach, which is why he would get angry at the dog, but not over the tressel thing.

Each coach in his conference is helping to protect the Big 10 brand which just last year alone generated $200M in revenue in 2009. I would think he expects more from the football coach of the anchor school in his conference not to eff it up. I would love to see OSU faceplant, but Jim wants league payouts so I am not sure on the analogy. I sort of assume the comment did not come out correctly.

I assumed he mispoke, and meant to say that he doesn't get angry, his dog gets angry, and he allows for that, but he tries to keep his own anger in check.  In my mind, he obviously didn't mean what he said, and this seems to be the most plausible explanation for what he meant.

Edit:  The OP titled this as Jim Delaney reserving HIS anger for his dog, but after re-reading the actual quote, Delaney never says it's his anger he's reserving.  He means that he is reserving the specific emotion of anger for the dog to feel, attempting to remain calm himself.

I'm really wondering why Jim Delany is so hated here (even if this is a Michigan Blog where Hate IS a Family Value), yet so respected everywhere else?

And I know we've come to the point where there is no such thing as a "joke" anymore, but you know, Jim Delany is really joking here. That's all.

I'm surprised that a blog with so many Michigan "graduates" has so lost any feeling for sarcasm or humor.

Oh, the EVIL that Rodriguez wrought. It's turned our fanbase into a very ugly mass of hyper sensitive, pompous posers who hate everyone and everything.

But HEY! We've still got SISSY POINTS ON MGOBLOG! Hip Hip HOORAY! WE'RE SO COOL!
