Gruden is SUPERB on MNF
September 28th, 2009 at 8:05 PM ^
Does he give cool insight and breakdown of plays?
September 28th, 2009 at 8:07 PM ^
I don't know if he is "hella cool", but he is way better than Tony K.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:13 PM ^
Gruden provides some insight, but anyone would be better than Kornheiser.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:12 PM ^
Kornheiser was awful, glad he's gone.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:21 PM ^
Not only does he have football smarts but he's pretty hilarious too, dude cracks me up.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:21 PM ^
I like Gruden on MNF, but if I were to say anything was "hella cool" I would sound like a Bay Area stoner from about ten years ago. Not sure how to respond.
More to the point, I hope they are paying him a boatload of cash so we don't have to deal with him at Notre Dame. Think the Raiders and Bucs wish they had him back?
September 28th, 2009 at 8:23 PM ^
So did anyone else notice Gruden's mooseknuckle?
September 28th, 2009 at 8:40 PM ^
a drinking contest with Gruden. I don't think I have a chance.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:56 PM ^
I think Gruden works on MNF because he's not awkard like Tony K. In fact, you can tell he's pretty much just a cool guy. Definitely seems very comfortable around football, and provides enough insight to be useful.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:00 PM ^
He is actually pretty good. Not sure how he feels about it, but he could have a nice career announcing/color commentating.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:02 PM ^
... something along the lines of SMCYDTF.
Must be some sort of cryptic coach-speak.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:07 PM ^
Is that like giving someone the Skittles?
I know the joke is getting old, but I still find it amusing.
And in the end, isn't that the real truth?
The answer is no.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:08 PM ^
But I don't know if I can go so far as to give him the hella cool tag. He's no Doug Karsch.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:07 PM ^
Haven't watched much, but he's already proven to be 104340 times better than Theismann and Paul Maguire, both of whom tempted me to put C4 in my ears. Kornheiser was bad but he was just awkward
September 28th, 2009 at 9:13 PM ^
Gruden is the Tits.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:30 PM ^
I think he has been great so far. I love Jaws too, they are both so in love with football.
But, as someone from So Cal who went to school on the central coast, your subject makes my stomach turn. Let's meet half way and say that he is "hell of" cool. If you are going to say something that makes no sense, at least be grammatically correct about it.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:18 PM ^
he makes me happy
September 28th, 2009 at 9:24 PM ^
I agree.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:36 PM ^
Yeah brah, HELLA tight yo!
September 28th, 2009 at 9:37 PM ^
His TV stint just makes it more so. Hopefully after sometime, he goes back to a sideline where he deserves to be.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:46 PM ^
of insight that is needed. I really like it when he makes Jaws look like an idiot.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:03 PM ^
Someone has to tell him that he's basically showing his junk to the entire country.
I noticed it the first time they showed the group shot during the pregame and pointed it out to my roommate. After that it was like a train wreck, we both wanted to look away but couldn't.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:33 PM ^
Agree. Never really liked his personality on the sidelines, but he does an outstanding job breaking down plays in the booth.
September 29th, 2009 at 12:04 AM ^
I guess I'm the only one, but he comes across a little too full of himself to me. As if he is convinced he has something clever to say, and everybody needs to hear it. I agree Kornheiser was somewhat awkward in years past, but I love him on the radio.
September 29th, 2009 at 1:45 AM ^
I think he has to be one of the best they have had on MNF in a while!
October 9th, 2009 at 3:40 AM ^
He's hella-cious. So far, I haven't seen any value added by having him on the show. He's not Tony Kornheiser annoying (since almost no one could be), but he really grates on my nerves as a commentator. As a coach I like him, but he's best heard in small doses.
Tirico good, Jaws OK, Gruden terrible. With three commentators, the constant chatter is just too much. I've come to the conclusion that there should be only two guys--one for play-by-play and one for color--and that both of them should be Al Michaels.
I agree with the writer of the "Gruden off to rocky start on MNF" article here:
