OT-What up

Drunk, not piss drunk, not puking or setting up the morninig fight with the wifeee, but pretty drunk, no doubt. Just the perfect mood for pointless conversation. Respond, if you will, I like conversation. 1. No smoking regulations: Come on now, you are talking about a law that both decreases the amount of profit for small business and a law that effectively will result in less tax money collected by a state to deal with an absurd deficit. I am not a "pro-smoker" but this in Michigan right now is wrong place-wrong time. 2. Kobe Bryant: Love him or hate him, I don't know what camp you are in, but what I do know is this guy is the real deal. Rape and Shaq behind him, when I watch Kobe I feel like I am watching the closest thing to Mike that I will see in my lifetime. And unlike Tiger, Ben, and a host of others, I feel like Kobe learned his lesson. I am now a fan, and I was decidedly a detractor three years ago. Go Kobe, you got game. 3. Movie "Crash:" Have some friends that think this movie is bullshit, even one that thinks is promotes racism. Just watched it, I think they are way off the mark. I know it is not an "indie" per se, but I think that is the most free thinking, stream of conscious film I have seem in a long time. It is not always on the money, but man it makes you think a different way for a couple hours. Matt Dillen, really underrated, and a staggering last ten minutes. Thoughts??... For those at the same level of intoxiation.

Once you've lived in a place with a smoking ban, this is evident. I simply don't spend the next day feeling like crap, hacking up tar out of my lungs and with watery eyes. When you feel well, you are more productive.

1. The lost tax revenue is more than made up for by not paying out Medicare benefits to dying smokers. 2. Is Kobe closer to Mike than Mike? 3. I liked Crash.

sunny is an amazing show, however, i was mildly disappointed in the last season. i hope they can recapture some of the old magic from season 2/3. on a related note, i started re-watching arrested development now that its on netflix watch instantly. i watched the show when it first came out but forgot how funny it was. that might have been the most underrated show of all time.

1. Ovaltine. What is the deal with ovaltine? It is not oval, they should call it roundtine. 2. Airline food. What is the deal with airline food? My lungs and my right to smoke free air supports the smoking ban. Seeing both of my grandparents on my father side die of lung cancer and emphysema after chain smoking the majority of their lives puts the whole issue in perspective. Well that and being a marathon runner. Spending nights in smokey bars makes for interesting 10-18 mile runs in the next morning as I am hacking up tar on my runs. Kobe is a douche and the NBA is fixed. crash was alright, but the tv show on Starz sucks.

in a certain sense. If I breath tobacco smoke all over your face, I'm now imparting upon your health and the health of people around you. It's the same reason parents with kids who have certain diseases like measles aren't legally allowed to bring their kid to a public park and interact with other susceptible children without taking action to ensure the child is no longer contagious. And if you think the effects of secondhand smoke are negligible, think again. That smoke doesn't just disappear into the air. That shit stays behind on whatever is nearby. I used to work in a computer shop and whenever I opened up the computer of a smoker, no matter how heavy or where in their house they smoked, there would be residue fucking caked all over the insides. It's disgusting and far from negligible.

How so? I understand the libertarian argument "right to health care" = "right to the labor of the Doctors and Nurses" and it is true, in general, you don't have a right to another person's labor. But with air, it is the tragedy of the commons, and it is not dissimilar to water. The air we breath is publicly owned, even in a bar. There is no private incentive to steward that public good, and the impacts of a few individuals can greatly damage the health and collective well being of others. The costs are incurred collectively, not upfront by those who smoke. It is a market failure. I absolutely have the right to smoke free air, because I own that air as much as you do. You have the right to smoke inasmuch as you can reasonably demonstrate it will not negatively affect another's health. Medical science says it does.

1. i'm not a smoker, but i was working in lancaster, ohio, when the smoking ban went into effect. one bar i went to all the time lost a lot of business because of it, and another bar that i loved got shut down because (allegedly) employees from other bars were going there and reporting the smoking violations to the police for the sole purpose of having their liquor license revoked, thereby eliminating the competition. if the place is just a bar, and the "menu" consists of a piece of paper with 8 items on it tacked to the wall, i say let 'em smoke. 2. kinda same boat as OP. i used to hate on kobe, but i think he's grown on me. however, i don't ever see myself saying i've seen anyone approaching MJ. there is plenty of debate these days about who is the best in the NBA, what with kobe and lebron and whomever else some bored msm sportswriter throws out there. but when MJ was in his hey-day in the 90's, there was no debate. he was the best. dominated like no other. and i'm not an MJ fan. 3. my favorite movie contains many historical figures, such as dave beethoven and socrates johnson. i cannot make counterpoint.

1. This is political, no? 2. If I had to pick my favorite rapist, it would have to be Kobe. 3. Crash is awful and disgustingly racist. I get uncomfortable when people tell me that they like this movie.

Kobe is easily the best player in the NBA right now. LeBron is the best athlete, but not the best player. Kobe should continue to hold the title as the best player for a few years before Kevin Durant takes over the spot.

Quentin Tarintino's "Death Proof". Love that movie. Its a "if its on, I have to watch it" flick, alongside Caddy Shack, Animal House and The Godfather. Stars Kurt Russell as a totally whacked out, stunt car driving, serial killer. Vanessa Ferlito and Rosario Dawson are in it, and both are hot (Vanessa's dance for Russell in the bar put "exotic dancers" to shame).

Forgot what we're on. Is the skit "old greg" funny? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIInySnQe4I&feature=related Evertime I quote this or bring it up my gf gets pissed b/c she hates it and thinks its disgusting. I happen to think its hilarious, and hilarious to quote. also: 1) I like the no smoking ban, but the golf course part is ridic 2) Kobe is great but got rocked last night. I'm also not sure about that crazy contract. When the cap comes back the Lakers will be hurting 3) Crash was good, but I thought it was overrated and somewhat predictable. The part with the car fire was intense.

1. If you want to smoke, don't do it around anyone else 2. I'm indifferent toward Kobe because I hate the NBA 3. Crash sucked. Not because it's racist or anything, it just sucked. If you think it's a good movie you're probably an idiot. I will not debate this.

I was not the biggest fan of crash. I think that what the movie was trying to do was show the racial tensions, and it did that well. However, I think that Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" was a movie that was attempting to show similar things, and all in all did a better job of it.
