OT: What do you do for a living?

Submitted by NYC Fan on

With the offseason here, I thought it would be interesting to read what members on this board do for a living.  Student, Professional, Retiree, Entrepenuer...

Do you like what you do?  Wish you would have done things differently when you were a student searching for a career choice?

For a Financial Technology company helping small businesses understand how to take payments.  BA in Sports Management and MBA both come into play but sales was not the intention back in college.

Worked out pretty well so far.

Regional Director for a national non-profit organization. I work in Nashville and cover two states. Love my work because it's so meaningful in serving vulnerable children and strengthening families.

I'm a sergeant in my 25th year in a big city California police department. This is my dream job. I used to be a Deputy Attorney General and then a Deputy District Attorney.

I agree that it's strange, but a few things:

1. OSU had the combination of being a very good program in my specialty and being convenient wrt my wife's career.

2. Michigan froze admissions for my program the year I was applying, so that was not an option anyway.

3. I feel like grad school is a very different experience from undergrad. Much more down to business and much less involvement with the campus culture.

Tourism Bureau in northern MN. I was born for this job. I love the Marketing side, community partnerships and public interaction. I even like the budget development, oversight and HR aspects of the position.

I'm a Reverse Mortgage Counselor for small non profit based in Chicago. But I work from home and am currently living in Cleveland where my girlfriend is based as a flight attendant. Like helping elderly people, and can't beat setting my own schedule and working at home.

In sales and live on the West Coast.  Only complaint is too much sunshine here.  A little bit too sunny in comparison to Florida if I must be honest.  Moved here from there.  Really love a lot of things about this state except the excessive taxation.

Professor of Spanish at a small, liberal arts university. Lots to love about my life, but one frustration is that a lot of people in this country are afraid of foreign languages.
