OT: What is the Best Advice You've Ever Received?
I was thinking about this today, as it's an amazingly profound question, and wanted to poll the collective sage wisdom of this community. What is the greatest piece of advice you have been given? Is it personal or professional? How has it improved your state of being?
Are you able to narrow it down to one? If not, what are some things that you've been told that have stuck with you or made an impact?
For me, I have two that I think about often:
1) "Every man will lose a battle in his life, but what's important is that he doesn't lose himself during it
2) "Be so good they can't ignore you"
Dad: "When you're shopping for a wife, look at her mother. Thats what she's going to turn into"
Uncle Ed (not actually my uncle): "If it aint yours, don't touch it"
So true, and can really keep you out of trouble. Say it to my kids all the time.
K-I-S-S keep it simple stupid. Great advice, hurts my feelings every time.
If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife. So from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you.

Don't be an idiot. Changed my life. Whenever I'm about to do something, I ask myself, "Would an idiot do that?" If they would, I do not do that thing.

You just need a massive horde of Mogolians with Subedei and Jelme as your generals. WIth those three things, all conquering is possible.

, your weapons are made by the lowest bidder!!!Tracers work both ways...
When I was younger I asked my grandpa why he was so quiet. He told me that you can't learn anything if you're the one doing the talking.
Everyone makes mistakes. When you make a mistake, acknowledge that you have made the mistake, apologize for it, learn from it, and then move on to the next challenge.
Contrast that with how many people deal with mistakes: blaming others, covering them up, denying responsibility, etc.
Which person would you rather deal with?
"Attack each day with enthusiasm unknown to mankind". I try, I really do, but it's so hard to do. That's why JH gets paid all the big bucks.
Best advice I was ever given and utilized.
"Don't be friends with somebody who goes to MSU"
I did this and got lots of sex out of the deal.
