OT: What is the Best Advice You've Ever Received?

Submitted by Steve Breaston… on

I was thinking about this today, as it's an amazingly profound question, and wanted to poll the collective sage wisdom of this community. What is the greatest piece of advice you have been given? Is it personal or professional? How has it improved your state of being?

Are you able to narrow it down to one? If not, what are some things that you've been told that have stuck with you or made an impact?

For me, I have two that I think about often:

1) "Every man will lose a battle in his life, but what's important is that he doesn't lose himself during it

2) "Be so good they can't ignore you"

If you ever travel back in time, don't step on anything. Because even the slightest change can alter the future in ways you can't imagine

I also like the "we'll see" story that ended up in Charlie Wilson's War.

Everyone makes mistakes. When you make a mistake, acknowledge that you have made the mistake, apologize for it, learn from it, and then move on to the next challenge.

Contrast that with how many people deal with mistakes: blaming others, covering them up, denying responsibility, etc.

Which person would you rather deal with?

"Attack each day with enthusiasm unknown to mankind".  I try, I really do, but it's so hard to do.  That's why JH gets paid all the big bucks.
