OT - What Are (or Were) Your Spring Break Plans

Submitted by xtramelanin on March 28th, 2016 at 3:56 PM

My office is nearly deserted today with many gone on spring break to one place or another.  Nice to have a slow Monday for once, too.  I would guess many here are headed somewhere during break, whether with kids or without.

Where are you headed?

hire someone to move him?

Me and a few my buddies made a pact when we hit about age 30-35 that no asks each other to help each other move and now 10 years all those calls have stopped thankfully.

I can see if one can't afford it but advice to those who can and who are thinking about doing it.........don't do this to a friend. Spend the money and hire a professional to do this back breaking work.

You can call me a bad friend if you want.......I have zero issues if someone needs a place to stay during tough times, needs a drunk ride home in middle of night, a shoulder to cry on over a GF or even a loan but sorry moving to me draws the line.

There's nothing worse a buddy can do to another than ask his friend to help him move because the guy was too cheap to pay mover.

Not a true spring break, but heading to Rosemary Beach in Florida for a week in May with the wife and kids. I am not sure I can make it until then. Damn, this has been a long winter.

Now that you mention it.  I need to check the CDC and WHO websites for any infectious disease outbreaks.

Remember when swine flu was a thing a few years ago?  It hit Mexico pretty hard so I used that opportunity to book a trip to Riviera Maya, figuring that the whole thing would be over by the time we got there in 5 months.  And it was.

I scored a 10k vacation for less than $2,500.  The resort was 1/2 empty and we didn't leave it the entire time we were there.  God I miss childless vacations.

teach them to love the same stuff you do (no, not hookers and blow), like fly-fishing, football, hunting, etc, and then you can do all your favorite stuff with your favorite people.   also later, when we get really old, they'll take us to the places we used to take them so we can hunt, fish, and all of that.

Your last sentence is a fricking dagger. Kind of makes me want to cry.

Dont get me wrong, I love my kids with everything I've got, but a week on an island with just my wife, drinks, dinners, obviously sex at anytime during the day because you dont have to look over your shoulder for a three year old... Yup, now I am crying.

My son plays high school baseball and is "strongly encouraged" to stay in town during spring break week to participate in practices and some games. There's a lot of Counter Strike being played in my house this week.

My daughter attends an "international" elementary school, which has language immersion programs and welcomes foreign teachers to enrich the classroom experience. This year, my family his hosting a teacher from Segovia, Spain. We asked her if there is anything in the USA she wants to see while she's here, and she said "the Grand Canyon." So we're taking her to Arizona over the school's spring break week. We'll be in Scottsdale for a day, then Flagstaff for a few days to see the GC, then up to Page for a rafting trip, then Sedona for three days. Looking forward to it.

And oddly enough we spent a few days in Columbus.  Went to COSI (a bit young for him to be honest) went zip lining through the trees (that was a blast) and then had the most ridiculous burger I've ever eaten at a place called the Thurman Cafe.

Behold the Thurmanator (and I ate most of it plus fries and a side of onion rings) with a few beers to boot:
