OT: Vandy Kentucky

Pretty good game but was also wondering if anyone has seen a basketball game at vandy, the setup is just really weird but seems like a good atmosphere and was wondering how it was to watch a game in.

Great for the fans. Horrible for opposing coaches. You can't tell your players which plays to set up if they're going the other way and it actually gets pretty loud in there.

I was at the game tonight.  Kentucky fans are annoyng as shit.  it's common knowledge here in the south about Kentucky fans being obnoxious.  Especially considering only one of their sports teams is good.

As far as the set up goes.  Memorial Gymnasium is a sweet place to watch a game.  The atmosphere was pretty good in there tonight.  It's oddly shaped but there's not really a bad seat in the house.  Vandy is a small school so the student section doesn't get as rowdy as some other schools.  I noticed a lot of students on their phones during the game itself as well.

Vandy had a chance to seal it and didn't get the job done.  Which is disappointing considering their starters are all experienced upper classmen.  Kentucky is pretty good.  They played strong defense and made some big buckets when they needed them down the stretch.  But they'll have a new starting 5 next year.

UK hoops fans are "obnoxious" to some because they are passionate about their team and they literally dominate every venue (even neutral or away) where their team plays. Name one other school who consistently takes over an opponents gym game after game, year after year. There's nothing else like it and I think it's just one more reason that college sports is so awesome.

I'm wondering if Kentucky fanswill still "take over the gym" once they get Calipari'd by the NCAA.

Enjoy the present my friend because my guess is you won't much care for the future (just ask U Mass & Memphis)

so deal with it. John Calipari has not been charged with anything and until he is, he will always be our coach at UK he is the coach of the century.  Before judging UK and their fans take a look at your arena and see how many banners you have hanging for championships like UK has.  By the end of the season we will have another one, so that is the way it is. We are the best and always will be so get over the jealousy and move on.  GO BIG BLUE.

lol according to record books calipari has never been to a final four so good luck on bucking that trend kentucky, I'm sure all those issues that cost umass and memphis banners have just magically gone away, you may win a championship this year, i just wouldn't count on it counting for the long haul.

I went to medical school at Vandy and went to lots of basketball games at Memorial during my time there (free for students!). It is an odd venue in some respects: it was originally built to be not only a sports arena, but also theater-type venue as well. Hence, the strange elevated floor with team benches on the ends. There are these corner structures too, with seats going away from the court only perpendicular to the court boundaries.

All and all, the place does get pretty loud and Vandy's been consistently good at basketball for a while now. The end-line bench thing really does seem to be an advantage as the opposing coach has trouble yelling out plays and being heard at the opposite end. And it is a fantastic place to watch the game--although you're not right up on the court like at other arenas, there's nothing to obstruct your view at mid-court.
