OT: Urban Meyer Retires -- Confirmed
December 8th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
I've never understood this. She lacks personality and has the looks of Hilary Clinton.
December 8th, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
Are why you're Hairypalms.
December 8th, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
Is that every time Rachel Nichols gives a "report" on ESPN, she talks like she's reading a fucking fairlyland story to preschoolers, and it drives me fucking crazy.
Had to get get that off my chest. Thanks MGoBoard.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:22 PM ^
Will that be like "Panda Watch" from Anchorman?
December 8th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
He will literally tear your face off.
Or if you insult Tebow. Face off.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:21 PM ^
So he will be back in the Spring then?
December 8th, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
I was thinking a Brett Favre comparison could also work.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
DEE HART TO MICHIGAN!!!!
December 8th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
Florida commits with Michigan offers are...
RB Mike Blakely, WR Javares McRoy, LB Ryan Shazier, CB Valdez Showers, WR Ja'juan Story, and CB Nick Waisome.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Did of any these guys show heavy interest in M before committing? I seem to remember Valdez Showers considering us at least a little bit.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:31 PM ^
Showers was the most interested. I don't really expect that this news will have much of an effect on these guys, especially if Dan Mullen or Charlie Strong is hired to replace Meyer.
We might have an outside shot at a guy like Waisome, but that's about it.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
Well that sucks.
December 8th, 2010 at 6:15 PM ^
Why would a kid leave from one coaching uncertainty to another? I honestly don't see us landing any more recruits til DB makes up his mind.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
...the Brett Favre of coaches?
December 8th, 2010 at 3:01 PM ^
and next year we will probably be treated to some TMZ story about how Urban sent candid shots of his Levis to the cheerleading squad.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
Several people have mentioned poaching players from Floridas recruiting class. I just took a quick look at there class didn't see any guys that had shown previous intrest in Michigan. Any recruiting buffs know if this is correct or were we ever in on any of there guys?
Edit- question answered above thanks.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
... I hope DB won't talk to that sanctimonious SOB.
Let's hope JoPa can send Urban off with a loss...
December 8th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Good riddance! I hate that whinny little shit!
But seriously, how soon before he returns?
GO BLUE
December 8th, 2010 at 2:30 PM ^
is there any possibility Meyer might be stepping down due to an NCAA issue? ANY? not that i want florida 2 be omg skrewed. but there's been so much weird shit surrounding that program the past 3-4 years...
Meyer will coach his last game for UF in the Gators’ Outback Bowl matchup vs. Penn State on January 1st in Tampa, Fla.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:31 PM ^
Orson guessed that it could be because Urban refused to make staff changes (Addazio).
December 8th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
He's stepping down because he is burnt out from coaching. Multiple reports have stated that.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:32 PM ^
Pulling a Pete Carroll. Getting out while the getting is good? Maybe there has been a lot of drama around them for a while.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
I'm all for RR, but he'd be a candidate for the job, has expressed interest in UofM before etc. Or Tebow reunion in Denver...
December 8th, 2010 at 2:33 PM ^
I'm guessing Meyer won't be coaching anywhere next season.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
Favre will become player/coach of Denver.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
I wonder if he is done with Florida or done coaching in general. If this is due to health concerns, I hope he sticks with his decision. If this is to coach Notre Dame, I hope he rots.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
It's official MGoBlog is faster than "the world-wide leader in sports".
December 8th, 2010 at 2:30 PM ^
From Chris Mortensen's Twitter account:
There are no dots to be connected on Broncos and Urban Meyer.
Also:
It is over in Florida. It will stick this time.
Certainly sounds like a guy who is trying to focus on his life. Feel bad for him, he's a darn good football coach who's realizing there are more important things, like being around for his family.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
"Feel bad for him, he's a darn good football coach who's realizing there are more important things, like being around for his family."
Do you feel bad because he will be under scrutiny for an early retirement? Your statement came across as you feel bad because he realized the more important things in life.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
I meant I feel bad for him because he clearly can't handle both raising his family and being at the top of his profession. The health issues last year took a toll on him too, although it doesn't seem that is why he's stepping down. I totally support his decision to be there for his kids. It's an admirable decision that more coaches probably have seriously considered but haven't been able to pull the trigger. Having won 2 national titles already probably does make it a bit easier to do, though.
Sorry for the confusion, that was a stream of consciousness-type sentence.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
And the money he made at Florida doesnt hurt either
December 8th, 2010 at 2:31 PM ^
Will be the #1 Canidate. Let's hope he is hired with in the week.
I'm glad our coach doesn't run the spread and can't recurit in Florida. Wait a second.........
December 8th, 2010 at 2:32 PM ^
Timmy J come on down!!!!!
December 8th, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
I think FSU has always been our biggest competition.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
IIRC, Timmy's announced top 4 did not include Florida.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
DBrandon could justifyably accelerate his head coaching decision by saying that with all of the other vacancies and coaching changes occuring, it is in the best interest of the UofM to accelerate its' decision and announce a coaching change now. If RRod is to stay then he can say that now and take advantage of the recruiting chaos. If he is to hire JH, then he can say RRod is coaching the Bowl Game as a way to say goodbye to the team and start looking for a new job. Only 27 +/- 1 days of this drama either way.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:54 PM ^
FL recruits who have us #2 on their lists?
December 8th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
3* CB on Rivals from Madison Heights, MI that picked Florida over us and MSU (yes, that one).
December 8th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
Interesting thought, but I'll bet 100 MGOBLOG points it ain't going to happen.....
December 8th, 2010 at 2:59 PM ^
termination as noted by Mvictors the other day.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
This is going to have a major impact on the Miss St game. Mullen most likely their #1target as HC. Maybe he leaves early, maybe he coaches the bowl game.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
that's right. it will be a major distraction for miss. st. unless meyer does his inevitable about face before the bown game.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
Their major distraction cancels out our major distraction
December 8th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
that Michigan doesn't have any distractions of their own.
December 8th, 2010 at 4:30 PM ^
(insert comment insulting your inteligence because I took you serious here)
December 8th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
Let's hope Dee Hart doesn't end up playing for RR @ Florida. That goes for Denard too...
December 8th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
how long til the RRod to Florida rumors start???
3..
2...
1..
December 8th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
Maybe the Yankees made Urban an offer he couldn't refuse.
