Except I don't think RR knew about this ahead of time. I think Heater gave Brandon a heads up that this might happen and they were waiting on Meyer to make a decision and an announcement. But I agree that RR's distress has been mostly about concern for his assistant coaches and their families.

I'm sorry if I'm wiffing on your sarcasm or something, but how do Heater's ties to Mullen stack up v. Rich Rod? How do his ties and job security at Florida stack up v. that at Michigan. I don't have sources or insider knowledge about either question, but the second question's answer doesn't look in Michigan's favor right now.

I remember reading Meyer's "heart" troubles were in fact due to gastroesophageal reflux, which can generally be easily corrected.  His new retirement sounds like it's more for his family.  I fully expect him to be back coaching in the next 3-5 years when his kids are older.

Mullen to Florida seems so obvious.  I don't know what that does to our bowl game chances, probably improves them.

Good, now the Miss. State fans and players can go through this whole is our coach going to be here next year thing that we're experiencing right now. It's maddening and people at Stanford, Pitt, Miss. State, Florida and others can live it with us.

If Mullen accepts the HC position pre-bowl, that could make this interesting.

Do they play inspired for the interim coach, or does this game get a whole lot easier?

Meyer should end up on ESPN next year.  I'm guessing he gets a "trial run" as a third man in the booth at one of the bowl games if he decides to step down immediately.  It would be a win/win; Meyer could stay around the game without killing himself, while ESPN would benefit from his knowledge and coaching connections.

It's certainly a lot more money than Meyer could make from a "day job."

I don't even want to think about how much time ESPN and all the MSM would devote to figuring out if the QB and coach had retired.

On the other hand, maybe they could just send one private jet for the both of them? Save some cash?

Good luck Urban, great coach...landscape of college football forever changing.

Nice to have a job that earns one enough money, that in just a few years your future is secure and when you've had it, you can quit.

This retirement may be only a coincidence, but I thought to myself that if Brandon goes away from RR and that its not Harbaugh, that I'd like it to be Meyer.  Perhaps Meyer and family wants to return to live in the Midwest????   And note that he has an out in his contract.... for the M job, the ND job, and the OSU job.

Not into all the conspiracy theories. But what effect does this have on Hart. If RR is fired is michigan still #1 now without a Urban Meyer Florida team. Is Florida still the place? Or are we looking at Alabama or Auburn back into the mix?

TomVH help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, If RR is retained say a press release Jan 2nd is it to late for Hart to still enroll early? Just curious I think Dee is an amazingly gifted back that UM has never seen before. My man crush depends on his commitment.

Is it just me or does this seem to be a little fishy? I'm not a RR hater, but if he gets another years and there's no improvemnt and gets fired does anyone else see Urban Meyer comming to Michigan? Just think about it, he problably wants out of the SEC because he hasn't been challenged as much lately and everyone generally thinks of Florida as a top football program. Now if he came to Michigan, being from Ohio it would be like a woody vs bo part 2! Or do you see him more leaning towards the Denver Broncos seeing as how the have Tim Tebow?

Would love to hear your thoughts:

Bo wasn't a Michigan man, and RR is def. not a Michigan man. Meyer likes to run the spread offense, what we're equipped for, plus we have Denard Roinson!!!!! Meyer also likes to be challenged as a coach, what bigger challenge than take Michigan beat osu and go to a National Title game, and Win it!!
