OT: TV shows that you're embarrassed to admit you love

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

A spinoff of a thread from a month ago because it's a slow day on the board. Time to shake things up.

There's certainly a ton of options out there. Fire away.

edit: didn't include mine in the OP.

The Bachelor, Married at First Sight.

I've never watched the show, but I sat next to Lauren Graham on a flight from SFO to LAX about eight years ago.  I was sitting there going, "I should know who this person is," and then I heard the flight attendant say something like, "I love your show," and so I knew she was an actress.  We engaged in small talk, and I found out she was from Northern Virginia like I was.  I never asked her who she was, but when I got home, I stalked her on IMDB by searching for her high school (Langley High School), and lo and behold, it was Lauren Graham.  She was also in the Seinfeld episode about speed dial, fwiw.

Hate to admit it, but I watch The Bachelor as well.

At first I couldn't stand when my wife watched it, then I came to appreciate it as a comedy.  The contestants are generally insane, catty, and full of unrealistic expectations.  Normally I don't dig on female schadenfreude, but these women have watched the show for years and still believe they will be the one chosen out of 30...until they inevitabley lose their shit in the limo ride home with a camera in their face.

And the most annoying TV host ever is more than made up for by the parade of eye candy.

As for their spin-offs, I enjoy the Bachelor Pad & Bachelor In Paradise even more as the promiscuity and volume of tears increase.  So I have poor taste and I'm an ass.

That said, I draw the line at The Bachelorette - complete douchefest.

Alison's size was the first thing that I noticed about this new season, which I watch out of my periphs while watching WatchESPN becasue my gf is obsessed.

Fun fact, apparently (and according to my gf), the real-life version of Alison has some type of disorder that causes her to put on weight. Of course, she told me this and I responded, "ya, I had that disorder back in undergrad -- It's called "case race and Pancheros at 3:00am."

This could be a thread all of its own: best shows for kids.

Of the shows my kids watch which I find to be good/tolerable, it's mostly PBS stuff: Word Girl, Odd Squad, Curious George, Peg + Cat.  I love that Bill Nye is now on Netflix as well.

four or five at a Friday watching. She used to skip past the gossip to the surgeries because she wants to be a surgeon. But now she watches the catty stuff, too. Should I be worried? She also seems to be particularly interested in the show's gay women and the guy with the hair--which, to each their own but at 11? I think I'm probably a really really bad dad.
