Everybody panics so quickly with this team. I remember the things I saw posted on my FB the first day we dropped out of first place all year -- some two months into the season. That didn't last. Let's all just relax. It was only about a week ago that we had the biggest division lead in baseball.

What's happened since then is the Royals haven't lost in a week, we lost some tight games to good teams, and now we're the day after a brutal 19-inning loss. And what timing for Verlander to have the shortest outing I can remember him having..

This is a confluence of negative events, which is sorta unlikely, but probably happens once or twice during a baseball season. Likewise, there are times when things run freakishly good and you win 12 straight on the road. Fans really read too much into the short-term fluctuations of sports.

Team's in first place (or so!) and just traded for David Price. Has way more talent than the second place team. Everything is fine. Look at what's happened to the Red Sox and the Rangers, if you want some perspective..

Well, most managers want the pitcher to put the bunt down and not worry about getting to first, so let's not blame him for not busting his ass down the line.  You can blame him for the negative attitude after, though I was kind of glad to see he was pissed that he wasn't coming back.

Leyland is sorely missed.  Ausmus hasn't a clue of how to do this job - from game management to motivation, he's lost.  Miss the playoffs, he BETTER be one-and-done.

Guessing you were a bash Smokey guy.....  Ausmus sucks, not being dramatic, simply stating the facts as I see them.  Good managers don't have teams riding a roller coaster an entire season - they find ways to stop tail spins and, equally importantly, keep the team grounded when it is going well.  Ausmus has done neither.

The '84 Tigers had a 22-23 stretch, you know. Was that a long enough middling stretch to qualify as a train wreck? 36-40 ain't good, but it's not a "train wreck"; all you have to do is make the playoffs, and preferably by winning the division. Nobody does that in August.

Verlander's gotta be sick or injured or some combination, even if he was gettiing hit around he was needed to stay in and eat innings, something isn't right here.

He probably is pissy that he was expected to go deep into the later innings tonight with little to no help from the bullpen.  He wasn't exactly chipper last night watching everyone on the team throw for 19 innings and leaving nobody for tonight.  The manager better put him in check quickly or else this could spread fast.

I'm sorry, but this team sucks. Yeah, I know, first place, 27-12 to start..but they straight up SUCK, and in no way do I feel like an unreasonable negative nancy saying that. Ausmus has lost control and this is pretty much officially a lost season.

Despite not winning the WS, we've had quite a nice run that should be appreciated.  That said, it's time to blow it up, let the high priced guys walk (i.e. eat contracts of guys like Verlander, Nathan) and in the off season, see what pieces can be gotten in trade.   Start the youth movement and be relevant again in 5 years.  Feel bad for Mike Ilitch, he deserved the ring, but he should feel no shame in what he has committed to winning.

Price has one year left, that's not an issue.  Cabrera can bring a nice return even with his contract.  So you're left with Verlander....and like the Phillies are going to do with Ryan Howard, sometimes you just have to admit you're wrong and pay the guy to leave.

let's fire ausmus and get rid of verlander, cabrera, nathan and price, because, you know, this team is toast; now and for the forseeable future.  dumbest post of the year.  last i saw they are still in first place and is just one consistent reliever (could be soria) from being the best team in baseball again.

You guys are SO right - stick a fork in the Tigers, they are DONE!  I mean what team in the history of baseball has been able to come back and win their division when they're only ahead by .5 games with 47 games left to play.

It's obviously hopeless.

Has nothing to do with their current position in the division - it's the eye test that says these Tigers aren't contenders this season.   There isn't a quick fix to right the ship - the offense is atrocious, the starting pitching is two notches below last year, and the bullpen is awful 50 percent of the time.

Outside of the torrid start, they are  4 games under 500 against mostly bad competition. They have a hard time getting a lead, have a hard time keeping a lead....it's bad.

I can handle a lot of shit, but by god, I cannot handle a player or worse, a team, just going through the motions. Is there no fire?  No "want to"?  What the Hell?   Right now they deserve to lose. Are we gonna let a Ned Yost team equal us?  Guess so....  get your things in order guys. Now. You're better than this.

It seems like over the past three weeks, anything that "needed" to happen to ensure success has gone ass end up. That's why I'm so scared for the rest of the season and why last night was really a turning point, I knew we were going to be exhausted, and I knew we "needed" Verlander to go at least seven. At that, I somehow knew it wasn't going to happen. Anything we need to do, to win, is the opposite of what's happening. Almost to a point to where you can depend on it to not happen. That's why I think the Tigers are in biiiig trouble. I just hope they can pull this division out of their ass, but not get so worn out doing it that they are good for a 3-1 series defeat in the ALDS.

Verlander has always been a hothead and a bit of an a-hole, but I'm wondering if he's bothered by being outpitched so badly by our other starters.

difficult stretch of games the Tigers have and are facing.

The Tigers finish September with 23 of 26 against the Central Division including a juicy 10 of their final 13 vs the Twins and White Sox.

That's what I'm grasping onto.

People saying this team is terrible because of this bad stretch they're in right now are like people who think their NFL team is terrible and going down because they are 7-4 and lost 2 out of the last 3.

It ain't good right now, but the over reactions of people in this thread are ridiculous.

The team doesn't suck.  The team is playing poorly.  But they aren't giing up - they've turned this into a ball game.

All the people bitching here would still bet on the Tigers winning the division if they had to bet the farm.
