OT Tiger's Fulmer - best game yet?

Submitted by Rodriguesqe on

I just posted a tiger thread earlier this week but since its "peak offseason" I think we can allow this.

This kid is flat out incredible. He was like a cat playing with a trapped mouse out there. Anytime a guy had 2 strikes it seemed like next pitch was strike 3. He racked up the strikeouts but kept the pitchcount low. His 98 mph fastball is s distant third best pitch.

Last game he snapped his 33+ shutout inning streak giving up a homer to end his night, a night where he woke up dizzy and shouldnt have been pitching. I believe he has given up 2 runs since early May.

They're keeping the kid gloves on the guy, if not he might be making a run at the Cy.

And as bad as this season has been, last night's 9th inning was pretty awesome.

Incredible return for what was a rental in Cespedes (yes i know he re-signed with NY) but you usually don't get this sort of instant return for a rental.

His changeup has gone from "keep me honest pitch" to an actual weapon, incredible development through his first 10 major league starts.

but cleveland has won about 40 of their last 41 games, including a 19 inning affair today in toronto.  somebody has got to stop them.   where is mgrowold when we need him?

Three game series coming up looms rather large.

We're sending

Norris

JZ

Fulmer

Unfortunately, JZ has sucked since the groin injury. Psychologically, we need to win the series.

I just hope that Fulmer can keep giving us at least around 7 innings per start. The stretch where the Tigers kept taking him out after 6 innings or less had me questioning Fulmer's arm stamina, even though he was pitching real good. Some say the Tigers are just protecting him from being worn down in his first year of starter rotation pitching in the MLB. I hope that's all it is. He did pitch a full 7 innings tonight.

I was admittedly one of those people that initially rolled my eyes at this deal, mostly because I was upset with the state of things at the time of that trade. However, having watched every Fulmer start now, I have changed my mind - liking what this guy brings to the team.

I read on Bless You Boys that Fulmer is the first Tiger in at least a century (meaning maybe ever) to go EIGHT STRAIGHT STARTS giving up 0-1 runs. Eight. Straight. Meaning that the last time he gave up more than a single piddly run was in May. Jesus tittyfucking Christ.

he's high believing

that the tigers can win it all.

jack, here's to hoping you are right.  i don't see it, but it would be a wonderful surprise to see the tigers suddenly be a good team.

Fool's gold this tigers team. Not enough pitching. Poor situational hitting. Bad defense. Average bullpen at best. Average manager. Albatross contracts. But Fulmer looks like a future ace.

Dave Dombrowski made some great moves as Tigers GM, and some busts.  This was one of his very best.  Selling at the break last year restocked the team with young arms.  Fuller is a gem.  He is like a rottweiller out there, won't give an inch to the hitter and won't back down.

Will they allow him to make the All Star team if selected?
