OT: Things that are awesome!
Last night was a really tough loss. As I sit here at work the morning after, super tired with my almost-gone voice from cheering, I'm finding a lot of Michigan/Detroit sports fans are feeling kind of blah lately.
I can't help but think we need really positive things to think about. I think everyone can benefit from good news, be it about sports or anything else. Some of my favorite MGoPosts are of awesome highlight reels from this past season and 40 comments along the lines of, "I'm so pumped! I can't wait til next season!"
So let's do this: What's awesome, what are you thankful for and what are you looking forward to in sports and in life?
Blah today but proud forever...GO BLUE!

But I don't. Losing a parent is probably the hardest thing after losing a child. And it's bad when you lose a parent early, and can see how that feels, AND see how it's like on your grandparents to outlive their children...the age old curse.
Yes, with much time, it will not sting so....it won't dominate your every waking moment. But it will for a good long while. And thinking about it never really makes you feel any better...so words will sound hollow.
All we can do is think the best for you. And sympathize with your pain. Best Wishes...

I lost my parents about 25 years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of them. There will always be some sadness but that will be overwhelmed by the good memories. Honor him in the way you live your life.

Gosh, I actually shed a bit of an MGoTear for your Dad, who I've never met, but must be a special person if you're bringing him up here. I'm sure if he could tell you, he'd wouldn't want you to grieve for too long, but would want you to find the joy in living again.

The fact that you are capable of growth is pretty awesome. The fact that you will recover from a terrible loss...that you will make new friends and that your father's death will make you a better person (you never recover from it....but you heal) is pretty g-d amazing. That the pain from the death of people you love turns into compassion and grace...that's pretty awesome.
Community...that's pretty awesome. That people band together and share ideas and comfort one another and do stupid sh*t like watch football...that's pretty awesome.

First rule of the internet: people bragging on the internet about sex aren't having it. Shut the fuck up.

The most awesome thing is counting your blessings and realizing how many you have. Here's a partial list from me: My beautiful wife, my amazing daughters, friends, The University of Michigan, Michigan sports, music, imo's pizza, beer, good beer, bourbon, memories of people who made you better, people who make you better every day, really great quotes, wit, laughter, sunshine, the intarwebs, beautiful girls, fingers and toes, bare skin, sleeping, sleeping in, getting up really early, looking at stars, drums, beer, running, spectacular views, huge mountains, the beach, Michigan Stadium, The Victors, more laughter, soreness after a workout, girl(s) who say(s) yes, smiling, mgoblog, mgojen, breakfast, taco bell, giving blood, getting blood, fast cars, good books, letters and emails from old friends, personal letters and emails from anyone,...must stop, but one last thing that is awesome: having more things that are awesome to count. And you. You are awesome.

Going on a cruise that departs from Charleston SC and hits Key West, Cancun, and Nassau, among other places. I went on a cruise two years ago and the day of departure a big snow storm hit mid-Michigan. We were concerned the flight would be delayed or maybe even cancelled, but they de-iced the plane and took off in the snow storm. It was wild you couldn't see for the snow, the plane was being buffetted by wind...then poof! We clear the clouds and there was nothing but sunshine. That was awesome! Hope that happens again...

My old U of M roommate's son getting to play Score-O at last Friday's U of M / Ferris State hockey game with Jack Johnson and Danny Fardig while wearing these sunglasses (which have blinking LEDs in the frame in case you're wondering) as the student section chanted "AWESOME GLASSES!"....is awesome.
