OT: Texas Not Bowl Eligible

Submitted by MightAndMainWeCheer on

With UT's loss to Texas A&M, they are not bowl eligible.  Unless not enough teams become bowl eligible, allowing a bowl to pick a 5-7 Texas team for their bowl, we will not see UT in a bowl for the first time in a long time.

This is the same Texas program that hasn't won less than 9 games for each of the 12 years under Mack Brown.  They have not won less than 10 games for the last 9 years.  Their recent history has been so consisently great that we have had legitimate concerns about holding on to our winningest program claim.

EDIT:  I saw I just got beaten to this.  How do I delete?

Funny how they were expected to win 10+ games in 10 seasons. Or the USC dynasty that crumbled. And Florida's struggle this season. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

that were supposed to be unstoppable dyanasties, what with their 5 star recruiting and all.

It just goes to show you a new fact of life in the modern era of scholarship reductions and every team being on TV:

Your freshman and sophmores can no longer beat the other guy's juniors and seniors, even if you are Texas, or USC, or Florida (or Michigan).

Teams like Wisconsin would roll over Texas, USC, or Florida if they played now.  Yet Wisconsin is never mentioned in the same breath as Texas/USC/Florida when it comes to recruiting.

It's the new math:  Senior 3 stars > Freshman 5 stars.

recruiting, especially in Texas, has become very skewed and corrupt.  Alot of these jokers who are "5 star killers" would barely be 3 stars maybe crack 4 stars if they lived and played in other states.  All the money and time the recruiting services spend on the state of Texas demands that they inflate and exagerate  their rankings

I'd say their defense was consisently horrible this year. Garrett Gilbert was no Denard (or Tate for that matter) and their offensive line (despite gaudy recruiting ratings) looked pretty average today.

Great!

We are now in a battle with Texas for most wins of all time (it is no longer ND, Texas has passed them already and is setting its sights on us).

If Texas picks up 3 wins on us per year (not impossible with a diminished Big 12), they will pass us in about a decade.

looks like the mess that he put on the field when he was the OC at OU.  they ran him out of town there.

...and too f'ing bad, it could happen to a nicer team.
