Yes technically since it didn't occur in a game its not a field goal. But he took regular FG step(s), not a kickoff run. That alone makes your assertion questionable. Additionally, he hit it off the ground, not off a tee--another difference with a kickoff. so yeah, while this is by no means the most impressive thing ever, it's pretty damn good, and certainly not a kickoff.

the defensive line and defenders jumpping to block the kick which causes kickers to put more loaf on the ball and sacrafice distance. I must have missed the snap and the hold and the timing of that kick that are all the things that differentiate a kickoff from a field goal. So what the video is showing is a kickoff off the ground with a short approach that went through the uprights. Miles away from a FG attempt.

I am not trying to diminish what the kid did cause obviously he has a big leg, but i am pretty sure the Texas coaches aren't going to be trying any 80-yard FGs this season based on that video. But I can see them taking a penalty and setting up on the 30 yard line for a kickoff and the coaches might tell the kid to kick it through the endzone.

So tell me again which is the video more indicative of?

I'm willing to bet most of the field goal records or near records also had a little help from the rear... just saying. I can maybe kick it 25 yards so I'm impressed.

So does "ideal conditions" mean that he's just kicking from a tee with no linemen in front of him?  Kicking a football 80 yards though uprights is a feat regardless, but if he did it from an offensive formation, with linemen in front of him and a holder, whoa.

No you're not missing anything.  Look at how low the trajectory of the ball is.  It would hit the linemen in the back.  Much harder to get the ball high enough over the line, and still get distance.  Not to take anything away from the kicker however.  One hell of a leg

If it is indeed the case that this kid - or someone else out there - can do it in game condition, I believe that by tradition someone is obligated to let Iowa know where such people can be found so that they can simply achieve the ultimate goal of going for 3 without even having to worry about mounting a drive of any length. Greg Davis would be very relieved, I am sure.

More like a kickoff through the uprights. Hayden Epstein did that against Eastern in 1998. The ball went over the uprights and the crowd gave him a standing ovation. The little kid sitting behind me asked his dad, "does that mean we get 3 points?"

Can he fly in on a private jet... In black in white, with a no talent hack still riding on his dead friends coat tails playing in the background?

Don't a lot of kickers have videos doing crazy stuff?  It all comes down to whether they hit them in the game, especially as the clock runs out.

FWIW - He doesn't really land the back flip.

Kickoff is on a tee and the kicker runs like 10 yards to kick the ball. A field goal is someone holding the ball on the ground and the kicker only takes 3 steps to kick like and actual extra point.
