OT Tennessee QB recieved Death Threats

Submitted by Blazefire on
Just more proof that the SEC needs to be placed into the octogon and allowed to beat each other to death in relative safety. Sporting News reports Tennessee QB Crompton recieved death threats last season. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=555425 It seems like you hear about a death threat for a player or coach in the SEC pretty regularly. I can't remember ever hearing about that in the Big 10.

I am not surprised. I recall that after the Alabama-LSU game last year an Alabama fan brutally murdered two LSU fans at a party after an argument. They's crazy down ther' in th' Ess-ay-say.

The worst thing is, sometimes SEC fans will claim their rivalries are better because they hate each other more. That may be true, in that they may hate each other more. But I think a rivalry is better when you can taunt the opposing side and you don't have to worry about them pulling a knife or gun on you for it, much less have to worry about somebody pulling a knife or gun on your OWN PLAYERS because of unsatisfactory performance. That's not better. That's not enjoyable. That's just crazy. SEC Fans, for your reference: Violence anywhere but on the football field = Bad Football.

I definitely think that some SEC rivalries exceed UM-OSU when it comes to hatred/intensity. In UM-OSU, the hate is clearly stronger on the OSU side. We don't behave as fanatically/insanely as Buckeye fans do. (I've never heard of OSU fans fearing for their physical safety in Ann Arbor.) In some of the rivalries down South, both fanbases act like Buckeyes.

...RESPECT the rivalry, what I was taught an have passed down to my youngins/kids I have coached over the years. I remeber after suffering another loss, while coaching at bama,Bill Curry returned home only to find a for sale sign placed in his front yard...with a moving van. While coaching at tucky...Tubby Smith received his fair share of them also.

i believe the "'bama fan kills lsu fan" story really had nothing to do with the fan-dom of the people involved - i think the press ran with it because it made for a more interesting story. and as far as kids not getting death threats in the big10 - didn't an OSU player receive death threats after dropping a pass in the end zone when OSU played texas in 2005? after some googling - yes - ryan hamby dropped a sure TD vs the longhorns - and later received death threats - yes it is OSU - but i am sure that it's happened with other teams in the big10. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/stewart_mandel/12/28/cfb…

To be fair, crazy people exist everywhere. Sure, the most extreme cases tend to pop up in the South/Texas, but people overreatcing to sports is a thread that runs through virtually every community (witness soccer). That said, it takes a special type of human being to threaten the life of a 20-year-old after a bad season.

like my signature says, I wouldn't root for ohio state if they played the nazis. thats how much i hate them. and none of that root for the big ten bullshit. i new the big ten was on the verge of a laughing stock if ohio state lost to lsu. i still rooted for lsu. f u osu
