OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Favorite Ads

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Couple great threads in a row, looking to keep it going with your favorite advertisements. These could be print ads, TV commercials, general ad campaigns, etc.

What do you love? (Personally, the Subaru Dog Family ones get me every time) What do you hate? (Jan from Toyota- notice they never use numbers? They just say "great on gas" even if the numbers aren't competitive)

New, old, classic... outdatedly hilarious, let's hear the best (and worst) ways you've tried to have been sold a car

That Cordoba commercial with Ricardo Montalban was the first thing that came to mind for me. "Corinthian leather." Whatever that is. The funny thing is looking back at it now, the car appears to drive like a boat with poor suspension. It actually lurches when it comes to a stop in the commercial.

I have a bunch of old National Geographic magazines, some dating back to the early '60s.  I love looking at all the old car ads in them.

My favorites are the old Cadillac ads.  This was when a Cadillac still meant something.  When there was nothing else like it on the road.

I love the sense of style and "irrational exuberence" in those old ads.  It was a different era, before Vietnam and Watergate and OPEC, when America still ruled the world.

I absolutely hate ads of all kinds.  I never watch live TV (except UM football games) because there are ads.  And during the M football games, I go do something else, like get another beer or smoke a doobie, during the commercials.

I have never seen an ad and thought "Now that's something I need to buy."

If I never again have to hear / see / think about the last few years of Buick ads ("That's not a Buick!") , I will die a happy man.

The commercials are insufferable, and it completely ruined a Matt and Kim song that I used to like.

original superbowl commercial a few years back from Crysler. don't even really like Crysler's, but being from near Detroit, that commercial straight up made me cry.
