OT: Summer Solstice

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Today marks the official start of summer (which is apparently several MGoUsers' least favorite season. To each their own, I suppose...)

So, what have you all got planned for this summer as you enjoy the sunshine and warm weather in anticipation of a huge fall football season?

Travel-wise, I'll be heading across the country to the Jersey Shore for my best friend's wedding next weekend, and I have a long weekend planned in Vegas in a couple of months. I do want to head back to Tijuana and Ensenada to recreate Anthony Bordain's Baja episode.

Otherwise, I'll be getting out my kayak as much as possible. It's leopard shark season around here, so I'm hoping for a nice day to ride along the shore to see them.

My last day of school is tomorrow (teacher) so I plan to workout at whatever effin time I prefer every day, spend lots of time with my girlfriend and 2 dogs (Harbaugh & Maizey), spend a bunch of time at my family's summer home in Mount Desert Island enjoying the summer ocean breezes of Maine's coast, and just generally relax and recharge the batteries.  I'll probably spend way too much time on here too so I apologize when I get inevitably annoying.

Summer solstice?  Does that have something to do with the sun?  Because I haven't seen the sun at all this week.  Just rain and more rain and mosquitoes and more rain and more mosquitoes...

Taking the kids to the over side of Michigan for a little beach time tomorrow and for a much needed weekend of not thinking about work for me. We'll be in the Stevensville / St. Joseph area, and it looks like rain, so when I am not at the beach, I'll be one of perhaps a few people in a Michigan shirt at a bar.

Taking my new to me sailboat out as much as possible. Which includes a week-long shakedown cruise over the 4th of July.  All in preparation of shoving off next spring for an extended period.

Five weeks at the beach house, a couple of beer festivals, a top Chicago restaurants food festival, Rib Fest, and a trip to Vegas to see Stevie Wonder.  Also, trips to the local farmers market for summers bounty of fresh eats.  Of course, lots of beer.

Going to Phoenix next weekend.  Now that's summer!  But it's a dry heat...

Then we road trip to San Diego for a few days with some old friends visiting from Canada. It'll be much cooler there, eh.

2 weeks from now, me and a few guys will be heading down to New River Gorge in West Virginia for my annual big fishing trip and I can't wait. 2 weeks after that, my pops is planning an ocean charter trip in North Carolina to fish for Red Snappers. Still haven't told the wife about that one.

Going to Europe for 2 weeks in July. Can't wait! Harbaugh didn't invite me to Normandy so I'm going on my own!

Taking a trip from Denver to the U.P. in a couple of weeks. Plan to take my time and see a lot of things on the way up there. Will be in the U.P for 10 days relaxing and seeing the sites. Then taking a different route home to check out more new things.

So far, my summer has been a lot of driving to towns around the Chicago area for softball tournaments, and I don't see an end in sight. So far, I've been to Mundelein, Wauconda, Niles, Rosemont, Park Ridge, Rockford, and to come is Elgin, Springfield, Joliet, Midlothian, and Romeoville. Wauconda was surprisingly pretty and almost vacation-like. In August, I'm heading to New York City for a family event, and then to Granville, Ohio at the end of the month to drop off my son to his freshman year of college.
