OT - Summer is Here, Got Anything Special Planned?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

It is that time of year when most schools get out and folks will travel.   This week it will actually be at or above normal temperatures up north for the first time in months, with great looking weather though some very cold lakes.  Its that time of year when people go on vacation or go visit grandma, go see Washington D.C, go up north, or if you're Putin, maybe invade a country to two.

So the question is this:  What are your summer plans this year, looking forward to some trips or visits, taking the family somewhere or maybe schleping to various courts/dance studios/fields for your kids events?

Summer is here, enjoy.

that'll make the news for sure.  you will love alaska if you haven't already been.   see if you can fit in a float and fishing trip while you are there.

I don't even know how to take that. This means nothing. It means the moon rotates the earth, the earth rotates around the sun, and every once in a while the moon gets in the middle of that action

planned for the summer. I'll be heading down to northern Georgia and staying with one of my very best friends and his wife (hotels in and near the "Eclipse Zone" are at a premium); we're still working on the rest of the itinerary for the trip but it includes so far a Braves game (or two) and a Deep Purple/ Alice Cooper/ Edgar Winter concert, among other things.

Being selfish and getting in one-on-one time with my wife before becoming a first time father in August. I've played the Victors to the baby so many times I expect it to pop out goosestepping to that tune. That and Mozart, lots of Mozart.

I'm doing a cruise and we port in Italy, Spain and France. I'm torn about cruises since you don't spend more than a day or two in each city but I'm hoping scratching the surface will give me a better idea where to go on a return trip.

Cruises give you a good flavor for each port city.  You're right though, find somewhere you really love and immerse yourself there.  We keep going back to Florence, Italy and plan to spend a few months there after we retire.  It will give us a central base to visit all of Italy which we have fallen in love with.

Coming back to the States for three weeks after eight straight months in Pakistan. I'm gonna drink so much good beer and eat so much good pork. Can't wait.

Daughter off to Camp Tamarack in Ortonville.

Son doing a three-week program for high school aged kids at College for Creative Studies.

Weekend trips to Cleveland/Columbus, Leelanau Peninsula, and Chicago for Lollapalioza.

Son will also be accompanying me on commercial shoots and will be doing some editing for me.

Plus some time spent at our club playing tennis, lounging by the pool, and enjoying a few cocktails.

Would like to get back up to the UP this fall;  maybe we'll meet up and I'll buy you a beer!

Cheers!

Really great place for kids. Went there every summer growing up and worked there a summer in college. That place is why I work in ministry now.

Only issue is that it's just me and 1991 UM Grad for a little romantic weekend.

That being said, I'll keep you updated and we'll see if we can make it work.  Would love to meet you; you seem like an interesting person and would enjoy meeting one of my MGoFriends in person!

We spent one night up north a few years ago in Paradise, at the end of a four-night trip around Michigan.  Visited the TQ Falls.  Want to spend more time in the UP, but my wife and kids could hardly be described as outdoorsy...and they hated all of the mosquitos and other bugs we encountered.

My wife was selected by our company to go on the annual "President's Club" trip. This year, the Amalfi Coast of Italy. All expenses paid... everything, and you can bring your spouse. I don't know if it's possible to OD on pasta, but i'm going to try. Leave June 16th

We went there for our honeymoon. It is fantastic. The food is unreal. Apparently the soil in that area is fortified by the volcanic action of Vesuvius over the years, and the produce is amazing. If you have time, check out Da Adolfo, a restaurant  accessible only by boat.

She's a keeper! Not sure I have been to a more beautiful place than the Amalfi Coast. I'm either going to retire there or live "off the grid" in the Southwest. The Italian people are terrific and welcoming.

If you sneak a day trip to Pompeii/ Herculaneum or Sorrento it is worth it.

With my old college roommate in a couple weeks.  I haven't seen him in a year, can't wait.  I've been to the Phoenix Open, but I've never played the course.

Family vacation with the kids and grandparents... classic Michigan vacation set up for August. Just got the boat set up how I want it, vacation rental booked and ready! On another note, my annual Ohio National Guard (been trying to transfer to Michigan forever, it sucks, nothing but Buckeye fans) "vacation" kicks off Saturday. Will be at Camp Grayling for the duration (bleh.)
