OT - Spring Game Weekend - Chicago to AA (& back)

Submitted by Bronco648 on
Hi All, I've decided to drive to AA for the Spring Game and to visit a friend in the area (Jackson, MI). I have Good Friday off (vacation day). If anyone is intersted in coming along (I'm leaving from the NW suburbs [time TBD] on Friday and will return on Saturday after the game), you're welcome to join me. I plan to stay overnight in Jackson. There appears to be a plethora of available hotel rooms (Travelodge looks to be cheapest @ $50 for one evening). I drive a diesel VW Beetle and would have room for 3 (incl. me) plus gear. My car gets 45+ mpg so fuel costs should be minimal. My friend in Jackson is a UM fan so she (and her BF) will attend the festivities on Saturday. If necessary, she can drive herself. If you're interested, feel free to reply - Dave.

It was a new beetle, and for the most part the women were good looking, but yes I did leave out the part that they prolly thought I was gay. I tried countering with the whole I am secure with my sexuality, but it never got them into the car. I even offered to let them shift as it was a manual, but that usually got misinterpreted as harassment as they thought I was referring to my penis.

the holiday inn is moving to a new location and the old holidome is now "the jackson inn" - from the stories i've heard, i'm not sure the holidome is actually operational anymore and if it is i wouldn't recommend touching anything in it

like 20 years ago. It rocked back then. Then we would go to the Hunt Club for lunch, and an ice cream parlor(can't remember it's name) before heading back to Ypsi. Ahhh, good times

town bar is, by far, my favorite bar in jackson. in all honesty the food kinda blows. the "chili dogs" are actually a microwaved hotdog with some canned chili on top.

there's a hampton inn, a fairfield inn (i think) and a super 8 near 1-94 that are probably less likely to harbor flea ridden prostitutes. if you are into serial murder, you can stay in my apartment. foreverrrrr.

I bought the Beetle because it was the only used diesel VW I could find. I would have preferred a Golf but they're even more rare. I will admit my Mom thinks my car is cute but I was more interested in the fuel mileage than anything. I've had no other people (male or female) tell me my car is cute. My wife thinks it's OK. BTW, it's dark blue not pink. =D I do appreciate the feeback on the Travelodge. Their web site states that the rooms have recently been renovated. But, my (local) friend also stated that it was "iffy". There are alternatives and I will look into those. IIRC, Baymont was the next cheapest @ $90/night.

Sorry I didn't give you ideas, I'm local. Holiday=bad, travelodge is worse, and generally there isn't much around. The Hampton is ok, but if you're up for a special place I'd say check out the Joy Motel on Ann Arbor rd. They have vibrating beds.

I chose not to reply as such: "When you bastards are ready to buy me a car, you can pick it out!"

And, some of the comments were pretty funny.

Ironically, the Holiday Inn is booked! I figured the Baymont (on Holiday Inn Rd. interestingly) was OK.

Is it safe to assume that I'll see all of you on the 11th so I can personally 'thank' each and everyone of you for your responses? =)

I'm a little surprised (not bummed) that the Chicago contingent has shown no interest.

I do appreciate being "saved" from the clutches of the Travelodge, though. Thanks again.

The Joy Motel? I'll pass...kthx. I may have to cruise by it so I can a least say I've seen it. For what it's worth.......
