OT: The small miniscule MAC Championship Open Thread -- CMU vs Ohio

Submitted by Plegerize on
Central Michigan can go undefeated in Conference play for the first time in school history. Ohio just beat Temple last week for a berth into the MAC Championship game. Maybe I'm just a homer for CMU, but this should be a good game to start an awesome weekend of football.

Yep and they did a stat-by-stat comparison of Lefevour to Tebow and McCoy and he matches up favorably next to both of them. Yet he still has no Heisman consideration. Granted the level of competition is different, the stats he put up are still tough to match.

Man that 2nd and 22 looked like Michigan this past year. Such a great opportunity blown on something like a big play or penalty giving the opposition another chance.

What do you all think about that cut block from the backup WR? Seemed rather unsportsmanlike, if not outright dirty... I just saw the replay, tho, so I'm open to other input.

All I saw was one view, in isolation. So I have no idea about where the play was, when the whistle blew, etc. I don't feel like I have a basis to accuse that CMU wideout of a crime. But it sure looked like a crime. If there's not a rule against that, there should be.

Yep, I'm kinda in the same perspective, too. But to look at the other side, we couldn't tell when the whistle blew, as you said, and the other thing is that just because the play is going the other direction doesn't mean that the defender should quit paying attention. That being said, even if the defender isn't paying attention, there are only a few reasons to cut block a guy away from the play like that, and when it happens from a backup WR on a star defensive back, I don't like any of those reasons....

It looked bad. And on the bench, he looked mad, like he had just been given bad news about a knee. One of the worst things I've seen on a college football field this year. Not nearly as outrageous as Blount at Boise State, but more serious for the victim.

Great game. Glad to see Dan and Co. bring another MAC title back to CMU campus, in the process break some individual records as well. As rough as it has been of a season for me in terms of Michigan sports, I'm glad I have something to gloat about in Central being a successful team this year. That was a very senior-laden team, one that has allowed their chemistry and experience to lead them to victory throughout the season. I can only hope that Michigan will be able to mirror the success other teams with experience have been able to accomplish. With time, and patience, it can be done.

figured this didn't warrant a whole new thread, but good for CMU being ranked in the AP for the first time ever. Hope they get a not-shitty bowl match up
