OT - Ryan Lochte robbery case gets murkier

Submitted by jmblue on

The Brazilian police has forbidden Lochte and the others from leaving Brazil while the evidence is being gathered, but he's apparently already returned to the United States.

The Rio police are casting doubt over Lochte's version of events, saying it doesn't square with testimony from others - although given their reputation for corruption, who really knows?

Apparently Lochte has met with the FBI to discuss the situation.

at the security check at the Athlete's Village shows some of these guys still had their wallets after they had been robbed.  Also, it shows they arived back to their housing well after they left the party.  Some missing info they did not provide to the police.

It sounds like a pretty sweet brothel name.

There were people that saw him at the party at the French House, but the question is what happened between them leaving there and them getting back to athlete's village.  Its apparently a longer stretch of time than it should be -- even if they got robbed.  Which is leading to people asking questions, and where the brothel rumor came from.

In his press conference a few days ago, Lochte was talking about how he's on Tinder.  And we were all kind of wondering why he was on Tinder.  Like, isn't the fact that he's good looking, ripped, and Ryan Lochte enough to pick up women?  My take after that was that he's just lazy or has no game when trying to pick up women.

I was just reading the New York Times story on this actually - I guess the Rio's main paper did a big spread on how the security camera footage does not mesh with the times given by Lochte and the others with regards to who was where and when, about how they couldn't recall more precise details such as the color and make of the taxi or indeed where they were when the assault happened. Of course, it's hard to trust the Rio police here given the reputation they have, but the media down there is going to considerable lengths to deflect criticism of the city and the administration of the Games, it seems.

Lochte is about as sharp as a spoon so any account given by him I take with a very large grain of salt.

Getting murkier? It was always murky. Everything about the story has always screamed "small lie made worse by telling bigger lie to cover for smaller lie." I've never seen a robbery where nothing of note seems to have been taken, and that's before we get to Lochte's flippant reaction to allegedly having a gun in his face. The likelihood of the group having the fortune of getting stuck up by the worst robbers ever is lower than low.

Lochte was guarding the young daughter of a wealthy businessman and his beautiful American wife.  Lochte had given up on himself and on the world, but the girl reminded him that life was worth living.  But then she was kidnapped, and Lochte assumed she was dead.

Feeling like he had nothing to lose, Lochte - with help from Christopher Walken - started a one-man war against the kidnappers and the corrupt cops who helped them.  He blew them up in broad daylight and cut off their fingers to remind them of what they'd done.  Then he learned that the girl was still alive.  He did whatever he had to do to get answers about where she was.

He finally stirred up so much trouble that the kidnappers brought him the girl and offered her life for his.  Lochte made the trade, and the girl was reunited with her mother.  Lochte, who had been shot, then died in the kidnappers car before they could torture him.

At least that's my guess.

I thought the story was a little suspect right when he said the robber pulled a gun then cocked the gun and held it to my head. Who pulls a gun on someone, THEN loads the chamber? Sounds like he was describing a scene from a movie where there is the statement then the dramatic sound of the bad guy racking a round in the chamber. I'm pretty sure most armed felons make a gun hot BEFORE pulling it.

To be fair, Lochte is so dumb he probably forgot to pay the cab fare and thought the guy was robbing him.

Sounds like the police are trying to save face. I doubt all 4 of them made this story up just for fun. But in the defense of the police nothing locte ever says makes much sense.

His story sounds terrible...out of all the people down there he gets robbed but can't recall any details of the robbery when pressed about it. Then news comes out today where he's seen joking around with the guys who were allegedly robbed with him and has his watch and wallet in the surveillance video.

I'm gonna go with the Evidence rather than Lochte or the Brazilian police force.

The evidence that has come out today is pretty damning for Lochte's story.  Legitmently all the evidence from security cameras, interviews and timing that has come out has done nothing but gone against the Lochte's original story.

Now, I don't get why they would lie... legit that's the one part that I haven't been able to make any sense out of.  But it sure as hell seems pretty clear that they've lied.

But I'm sure it's possible that he was robbed, they let him keep his 2K shoes and expensive watch, and that he picked up a new wallet from the time he was robbed and went back to the Olympic Village (which was 3 hours later than he claimed), and that everyone in the group got over the trama of the robbery in that time too.
