OT: Rooting for Ohio State to win tonight?

Submitted by PepperHicks on

Are you pulling for an OSU win to improve the B1G's tire fire conference reputation, or is it simply not in your DNA?  For me, as much as I'm sick of hearing about how inferior the B1G is, I just can't... I just can't.

Honestly, I don't care about this game.  I'm done worrying about other teams' performance including OSU.

Haahhahhhaahahaha...ha...haha...ha. Oh, you're serious. No, I don't. I hope Clemson beats them so bad they have to roll the score board over to zeroes again. If they need to institute negatives that'd be great.

Because my football coach is a Buckeye and an arrogant one at that. Before the BWW Bowl he said at lifting "Now we get too see another sucky Michigan Qb." Which disgusted me, because Gardner doesn't suck. So to hell with Ohio.

Not sure if serious. Fuck the rest of the B1G. I root against everyone in this conference. Only team that matters is Michigan.

I don't get this. So, we want our conference to suck, but whine about not getting respect? The SEC will get two teams in next years playoff and got two teams in the national championship game a few years ago because the perception (right or wrong) that their 3rd place team is that much better than anyone else. Remember 2006? What if the B1G had the SEC's reputation? I root for every B1G team to win out of conference. A boat can't sail on an empty lake.

Ohio being jumped by Baylor and/or a 1 loss Alabama team.  To root against one's conference is just dumb.  Everyone hoping the B1G loses every game outside of Michigan sounds so ignorant and Sparty-like.

You are missing the point, if there are 3 or more undefeated teams, which 2 do you think will go to the championship game?  With everything else being equal, the two teams from the better conference.

Did you really root for Syracuse over Minnesota, South Carolina over Wisconsin, etc.? That's hardcore. I always root against OSU, almost always root against MSU, and occasionally root against other Big Ten teams that are pissing me off at that moment, but other than that I'm a conference guy.

Definitely laughed at wisconsin losing because I hate everything about them. The johnny-come-latelys who have had a pretty consistent history in being terrible pre 1990s.

I did for minnesota as well since, believe it or not, they're still a rival. Remember that feeling you had in 2005?

Only reason I wanted nebraska to lose is because of past reasons which I think don't need to be dicussed again. That and abdullah has a big mouth and needed to get punched around a bit.

All petty reasons but the goals here are to win the B1G Championship and go to the Rose Bowl. What I think the goals SHOULD be (being it's 2014, not 1988) are dominating this conference exclusively and shooting for a national championship every year.

Yes, I know we are years away from that.

the big ten needs to improve it's image against the other conferences and we have not liked very impressive so far. so with that said, hell no and screw Ohio.

It's 180 degrees the other way.  Sometimes, getting what being a Michigan fan is all about means rooting for Ohio.  Ali needed Frazier, the Yankees needed the Brooklyn Dodgers, and we need Ohio.  The rivalry is as much a part of Michigan as the winged helmet.

All that said, tonight, not only no but hell no.  We need them good, not great, and also screw the reputation of the conference for now because I can't stand Delany's hubris.  We don't need the conference to look good until we look good.

If they win, hope Braxton Miller puts on a passing clinic, as that may propel him to the NFL. I just said Braxton Miller and passing clinic in the same sentence... Wow.

Even though its OSU and I hate them, I still want to see them win so it can be another feather in the Big Ten's cap.

And for all of the people that rag on the SEC for some sort of faux dominance, you should want OSU to win too.  The more big bowl games the Big Ten can win (especially against perennially wishy-washy Clemson) the better it will be for the conference as a whole.

Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl wins coupled with Nebraska winning and Iowa playing LSU close will go a long way towards changing perceptions.

Exactly this. At some point (hopefully very soon), we'll be sitting on the bubble to get into the playoffs. B1G winning BCS games helps the image of the conference which in turn could push us into the playoffs when we're fighting for spot against a comparible team from a different conference due to strength of schedule. As much as I HATE rooting for OSU, them winning tonight could help us in the future.

I guess I'm in the minority. I always root for B1G teams in bowl games. Two BCS bowl games this year would be a huge step into the right direction for the B1G.

I'm rooting for Ohio State; I frequently do.

And I am also thinking about how much we could have used Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins on our team, before the coaching change rumor mill helped them make up their minds to go to Clemson.

I'll be rooting for OSU, but I don't think they will win, without Roby and without Spence, and with 20 guys suffering from the flu.
