OT: Rhett Rodriguez (Rich Rod's son) mid-season update

Submitted by Dawkins on

I previously posted about Rich Rod's son Rhett having grown into a successful quarterback at his high school in Tucson, Arizona, and becomming a potential 2017 D-1AA/D-1 quarterback prospect (and a possible walk-on candidate for his dad at Arizona).

So far this year he's having another successful season. His team is 5-1 and Rhett continues to put up impressive numbers:

  • 1,193 Passing Yards
  • 67% Completions
  • 8 Passing TDs
  • 1 INT
  • 392 Rushing yards
  • 9 Rushing TDs

I couldn't find any highlights from this season, but here are his 2013 and 2014 highlights on Hudl if anyone is interested.

It's notable that his team was 0-10 the year before he arrived, then they went 8-3 with him starting as a freshman and 7-4 during his sophomore year, making the playoffs both years.

Great job, Rhett!

Negative A MILLION. Seriously. After the way RichRod's tenure went here you seriously think he'd let his kid come to Ann Arbor. Obviously he'll play for his old man but even if Rich Rod was out of coaching, no way he lets his son come here.

Rhett himself was harassed at school and I remember a picture of him in the car with his Dad while people were hounding them and it looked like a pretty stressful situation, especially for a kid. I have a whole new understanding of a certain segment of our own fanbase after that period and what went on....not flattering.

I highly doubt he would give us so much as a glance if we showed any interest. More interesting if we were to go up against him on another team at some point.

Glad he is doing well though and wish him the best.

Zero, and that's not really the point of the post. It's just an update about the son of a former Michigan head coach who has become a successful high school quarterback and possible college prospect.

I think if we could give Rhett a chance to bring in his own guys, recruit his type of players, and give him more than 3 years as a starter, he WILL be successful at Michigan.  Fergodsakes.  Just look at what he's doing in Arizona!

I was on his Michigan football camp team for scrimmages when rich rod was coach (and oddly enough Josh Jackson whose committed to Va Tech) but he was the cockiest cry baby type kid I've met, granted he could sling the ball and he's 2 years younger than me and I was in 7th grade, I hated him.

Who cares?! He will fail just like his father. Don't let him get anywhere near this program. Rodriguez's years were just the beginning of the downfall. Thank God we have Harbaugh. Rodriguez didn't know The Victors or English... Have fun in Arizona.

This isn't a Michigan recruiting post. Also, you're kind of a dick. If Lloyd Carr (or Hoke for that matter) had a son who was slinging the rock well in high school and emering into a potential college prospect, it would be of interest to many people on this board. The fact that you don't like this kid's dad is inconsequential. He's a former Michigan head coach, whether you like it or not.
