OT - Remember the Notre Dame academic scandal?

Submitted by Mr Miggle on

We can probably use a little break from our own problems. Their five suspended players may finally get their hearings this week. I can understand the frustration their fans must feel at the pace of this process. Many here were convinced it would be settled before our game. That was four weeks ago, but it feels like so many more.

Remember them?  Oh, yeah I do... that was the reason we were going to beat them by 14.  Sure thing with all those starters sitting......

Yes I do remember them. And they're now ranked #9 in the country. They seem to be getting along just fine without those players, regardless of whether or not they're suspended for the year. I don't think they're winning a national title since they still have to go through Stanford, FSU and USC, the last two of which are on the road, but either way, I think Notre Dame is doing just fine without them.

Definitely feel you on that one. Has another one of those BS luck of the Irish feels to it where Lou Holtz comes out afterwards and spits all over the camera when he says I told you so.

But then of course they'll get curb stomped by Alabama, Auburn or Oregon in the playoffs, so it's all good.

ND won 30-16 despite Golson shitting the bed.  I find it funny how no one harps on FSU or Alabama or a TexasAM team that should have lost to Arkansas.  Teams have rough games.  The Syracuse game was one of those in past  years where ND wins by a field goal.  16 points on a neutral site is pretty good.

Now I am not saying ND is world beaters, but the team is pretty solid.  If all of the suspended players get back that just increases the expectation.

Eh. Recruiting stars matter and coaching matters too. I don't think Alabama would be where they are now without the Dashawn Hands of the world. We have the talent at least on defense. There's no way that the Minnesota game should have finished 30-14. A winning coach puts in his best qb instead of the backup qb because that's what the fans wanted at the time. That's a game management issue and then you get to the offensive coaching up issues such as fundamentals on the OL etc. I think we have done a better job on the defensive end and that our defense would be much better if we had Peppers and Taylor back there all year and the unit wasn't constantly being put in bad positions with turnovers.

Their PR people aren't fucking morons so addressed the situation immediately, taught the AD and head coach how to say absolutely nothing without looking like they were saying absolutely nothing, and then everyone moved on to the next shiny object.

This is not THAT hard, so when we screwed it up this badly, it's just remarkable.

I don't think you've been paying attention, AD Swarbrick announced in mid August that four players were being held out of practice, but were not suspended. Kelly and the assistant AD announced on August 29 that the school's investigation was complete and the players would have hearings very soon.

Subsequently, Kelly has publicly complained about a lack of communication from the school. So have Daniels and his family. It's been nearly six weeks since their investigation was supposedly completed and the players are still suspended without the hearings to which they are entitled.
