OT: Redskins and Rams trade

Submitted by RollDamnTide on

Washington Redskins traded three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick to St. Louis for second overall pick in a trade first reported by @JayGlazer.

Umm, cough.

Lets break this down:

Washington gets: St. Louis's 2nd over all pick this year

St. Louis gets: Washington's Next 3 1st round picks, and a 2nd rounder.

Got it. Nothing to see here, just Daniel Snyder being Daniel Snyder.

EDIT: And with the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select.

As a lifelong redskins fan... laugh it up.  I'm happy about the deal and most in Washington were hoping this happened.  We haven't had a franchise QB since Sonny or Slingin Sammy Baugh.  I'm looking forward to RGIII giving a speech just like Peyton just did in 2027.  Then maybe the Lions can sign him.

Guy is something else.  He really wanted Peyton and this looks like a knee-jerk reaction.   If it were two No. 1s you could almost start to justify it.

RG3 is an incedible talent but is now probably walking into a very tough situation.

Okay that makes sense - I hadn't read it closely enough - thanks

Still steep but it starts to approach sanity at that level - they better be really smart and lucky with every other personnel move they make.

The Giants did something similar when trading for Eli Manning but it wasn't quite this much.  They did well in a few subsequent drafts which made up he difference - but that's not guaranteed.

A knee jerk reaction? For weeks it has been reported that the Redskins would try to get the number 2 pick along with a few other teams. This is anything but a knee jerk reaction.

Yea... I'm a little bit surprised by the reaction here... moving up to 2 to select RGIII has pretty much been the Redskins top scenario since the BCS. But then again I probably listen to way more DC sports talk than most.

I am shocked by the # of Roll Damn Tide type responses "typical Snyder" and whatnot. Going after young talent to rebuild around is basically the antithesis of signing aging neon deion and bruce smith.

Also the kid might be Akili Smith but he's far from Ryan Leaf. Anyone who's heard even one interview knows his character is outstanding.

Pretty much a lot of wrong wrong wrong here.

I wasn't paying that much attention to it until yesterday...from the timing it seemed like a quick move but apparently not.

FWIW I'm a Giants fan and I think it's a good move by the Redskins...though it was expensive.  I think RG3 is an incredible talent and a total class act.  The Redskins are just going to have to be really good with personel moves from here on.  They won't stars with their mid-round picks but they will need to get some players there.
