OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/30:

Submitted by AmaizeingBlue on

Yesterday we didn't lose any territories overall, but our forces became a little bit fractured. We still hold the majority of the northeast and all of Michigan, but we lost some ground in Ohio. The good news is that Florida finally broke free from Chaos and can join the fight. Texas also made a huge dent in Texas and now Alabama is pinned between Florida and Texas. Things are most certainly looking up for our alliance.

Also this is a reminder to not attack Clemson. We've had some problems with our users taking territories from them that we are allowing them to keep. They can not be effective moving forward if they constantly have to defend their flank from us. So please do not ever attack Clemson unless specifically told to in an order.

Announcements:

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

"We still hold the majority of the northeast and all of Michigan"

Do we though? Maybe we should start questioning who we elected to run this ordeal.

Sincerely,

We have all of the Michigan school territories but geographically we're missing part of the upper peninsula and southern edge of the lower peninsula. We need Toledo, Notre Dame, and Minnesota territories to own all of MI geographically.

Gogebic County, Ontonagon County, Houghton County, Keweenaw County, and maybe parts of Iron County and Baraga County.

You must be a troll. The Michigan kind of troll.

I heard on Twitter that a bunch of Cornhuskers are creating trouble on Mackinac Island - drinking Busch Light, eating large quantities of fudge, throwing horseshit at pedestrians.  It is overall chaos there, and likely to fall.

If they get Fort Mackinac, the Bridge and gain the high ground at Castle Rock - they are going to be a bitch to stop!!!

I was on defend BG yesterday. I just looked at the results. Wisconsin won with 1 4star and 1 (1) star. We had 6 4 stars, 14 3 stars, 14 2 stars and 36 1 stars.

Even if you add the 5 Nebraska and 3 OSU players, thats ridiculous.

While Risk is based upon stacking up the odds in your favor (The bigger the Army the more likely you will win).  It just seems that the "underdog" wins too often in this game.

Last night you just pointed out 3 examples where people are wondering how in the heck did we win/lose those territories (based upon one's view point)

And there have been several examples over the past 3 weeks where this seems to happen too frequently.

I can tell you on FLA, there were multiple times over the past few days where FLA had incredible odds in their favor to push out Chaos (who are discounted in their star ratings), yet Chaos seemed to pull one out each night.

To me, there is just something off in the CFB Risks mods RNG method / calculations that is favoring the underdogs too much......

Sometimes we benefit from it and other times we are on the short end (this is why it took several days to secure the NE).  We would have stacked odds against OSU on some territories, but they would come up snake eyes when the RNG took over.

Chaos is probably about to essentially wipe out GT and make them useless allies for a few turns, really going to need Florida to come out swinging

I especially liked the admonishment to "not attack Clemson" cause I have this mental imagine of some rouge gamer fucking it all up for everybody by not following central command's directives and launching an attack on the Tigers a-la General Jack Ripper with the Rusky's in "Dr. Strangelove".

But what's with the boring thread title?  I missed the dramatic foreshadowing.

clearly a good portion of readership enjoys this. I am not doing cfb risk, but your comment not really helpful

just happens that you interpret the activity to be nerdy. fantasy football, march madness can be pretty similar to dungeons and dragons in terms of involvement.

there are tons of other topics regularly discussed with vigor in this board that don't appeal to me, I simply choose to ignore those threads.

How does star ranking work?  I thought it was an average of the 5 categories.  In the 5 categories, I have 10 total stars, but I'm a 1 star and not a 2 star.  Can someone explain this?

I just got to a 2-star, and my discussion points are needed to get to a 3 then a 4-star

say nice things about people and make a witty comment for upvotes

saying something about lack of Big 12 defenses got me negative 90 lol
