OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/14: ALL OUT WAR

Submitted by ReegsShannon on May 14th, 2018 at 12:11 PM

Thank you guys for your dedicated participation as of late. We are now by far the largest team in the game because of your guys' participation. Unfortunately our team has been hit by a bit of a nerf. 1/2 star users have been weakened by some unspecified multiplier. We are the most dependent on 1/2 stars in the games because of how much support we have gotten from you guys. We are just going to have to strategize better to work around it.

Today was another stepback. We retained 5 of our 6 most important territories yesterday. Unfortunately that 6th that OSU obtained (with only a 22% chance to win compared to our 78%, ugh) gives them options to attack a lot of our territories. So we have a bit of a hole that we have to work out of, but we can definitely do it. So we are working on reconsolidating our hold in the NorthEast and pushing back against OSU.

Here are the official suggested orders for today if you're a non-Discord user and are just following along from these posts:

Birthday in January-April: DEFEND Syracuse

Birthday in May-August: DEFEND Army

Birthday in September-December: DEFEND Rutgers

Below are a few messages about recent updates with the game and instructions to join and play if you are new.

The creators of the game recently increased the aggressiveness of their bot detection to prevent the use of bots/alternate accounts. If you have created a brand new reddit account to participate in this game, then we need you to check the game page to ensure you don't see the message in below. If you see this, you are being flagged as a bot and your moves are not counting. Please DM reddit.com/u/bakonydraco to get the situation sorted out.

So follow the instructions and contact the r/CFBRisk mods if that happens. Also, the CFBRisk mods have indicated that they may start marking accounts as bots if they aren't "users on R/CFB". So we ask that in order to keep yourself eligible that when you go to vote everyday: just take a look at the CFB subreddit and make a post or two. There should be always something on the front page Michigan-related that you can drop a quick take on.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Additionally, we have formed "The Blue Alliance" with Florida and Georgia Tech. If you would like to meme about this, go to: www.reddit.com/r/CFBRisk/

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

How is OSU able to attain so many territories when we can't even hold on to the ones we have as the game's largest group? This is starting to feel like a real M-OSU football game.

yeah I'm not interested anymore. it has obviously been poorly handled and we've been punished because of their poor vetting abilities and failure to detect another team cheating. I'm choosing to waste the time I've allotted in my life for wasting time on something else.

How did OSU get New Hampshire/Vermont today if yesterday they didn't own any territory boarding those states?  I guess I don't understand the rules quite yet.

Don’t click on, then post in a thread you have no interest in if you don’t want to get downvotes for saying you don’t want to get downvoted because you aren’t interested in a thread you had to waste your own time to click on and then post in, thus wasting others people time they were already wasting without any help from you.

This seems about right for this game at this juncture:

 - Texas trying to regroup in outstate Illinois

 - Alabama now diminishing in a two-front war

 - Nebraska making huge gains in a vast nothing, which is how they plan to eventually win the Big Ten West

Serious question. How long is his going to to go on? Are we really going to have a post on the forum every day? I mean shouldn’t this move offsite to talk in discord now. And maybe a weekly recap post instead. Please make this happen

I get that not everyone wants to play but I'll never understand the problem so many seem to have with a thread existing. I joined recently and I prefer a forum post to a discord server when I want to know my plan for the day. I doubt I'm joining the discord. Is it really that bad?

How could we allow such a crucial defeat? It feels like throwing an interception from your own Endzone in a game that you have complete control over.
