OT: RCMB does something cool

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

I know a lot of us laugh at the RCMB most of the time, but I thought this was pretty cool of them to do. A lot of the posters ordered pizzas and the like for the izzone while they wait outside for the game tonight. It would be a good idea for Michigan fans to do the same for the msu game when it comes up.

For the MSU game, students have assigned seats, so nobody will be waiting.

I'll be in line at like 8 am for the Indiana game (I think) though if anyone wants to bring me food

Oh yeah?  You think it will?

I'm going to buy a gun today before Obama bans their sale.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I'm looking for something that isn't good for hunting, sport shooting, or home defense.... I want something more offensive and possibly convertable to fully-automatic.  Although I want to say I do enjoy hunting, going to mass daily, and voting against all "progressive" ideas.

And marijuana is not medicine.

Checkmate.

While there are definitely some eye-rolling elements to the culture on that board, people are always going to have tons of ammo to mock any large message board of a community they do not like. As with any mass audience, there will be plenty of idiotic comments to cherry-pick.

They aren't all bad. Usually the worst threads on RCMB will feature a lot of State fans saying "Wow, this is embarrassing to read." Not dissimilar to here.

That you and others think I hold a high opinion is interesting if you re-read my point. RCMB suffers from the rule of the LCD, as does this board and every other large board. On all these, there are intelligent people as well as crazy homers and neanderthals. For any big board to get uppity about another big board is hypocritical. There is a ton of crap on all of them.

This board is very vigilant in publically chastising it's extremists and weirdos. In addition, the mods bring down swift judgement to any user or thread that crosses the line. Besides pretty awesome content and writing by the site's key players, this is why this is one of the premiere and most popular sports blogs on the internet. RCMB does not fall under that same umbrella, and while RCMB is indeed a big message board, it's user issues far eclipse our own.

I agree that this site is better. But there is a ton of stupid stuff said that I doubt the mods would touch. You just can't stop that from happening unless your community is a small clique. The mainstream belief in college sports is that any popular site where rivals convene is a cesspool. Our minds tend to spot things that confirm what makes us comfortable and gloss over what doesn't jibe with preconceived notions.

Again, MGo has less issues than RCMB. But if an OSU or MSU fan wanted to lurk here and laugh at delusional comments, there would be enough fodder to justify the trip in spite of all the other well-rationed points one can find.

I'd put the truly offensive stuff around here at about .25% of comments, or 1/400. The borderline offensive stuff is probably another .75%ish, trending higher or lower depending on the day, then the crazy homerific stuff is obviously a bigger number, and I can't put an accurate estimate on it because it's not something I read for. I'd still say that the homerific posts get pretty well ripped on a lot of the time here, though, especially the dumb kind that opposing fans might make fun of.

The 90% of the posts there that contain the word [insert deragatory use of "UM"] qualify as "idiotic comments to cherry-pick," but it can't really be considered "cherry-picking" when it constitutes 90% of their board.

Exactly, this is Michigan. We'll be giving our students a surf n turf paired with a three glass wine flight and a a glass of 12 year single barrel. If they'd like they can start with a wedge salad or a cup of the lobster bisque. If you'd like the soufflés (and trust me, you do), please let your server know in advance as it takes around 45 minutes to prepare.

I remember when Athletics felt compelled to bribe the Maize Rage with pizzas to get all like 150 of us to show up to watch some godawful basketball on a snowy evening.

Kids today are getting soft.

I seem to remember UM players doing this for students before the OSU game. I think this thing happens a lot. I am sure it is just as cool when MSU does it, but. Let's not give undue credit to their fans on the Internet. I don't really care about it. I just dont want young kids or the uninformed to think this is something cool Spartan fans invented or something.

Not much food at all, barely anybody got anything for the most part. They totally underestimated the line and only the earliest arrivers got anything.

Izzone has it easy too, their bleachers are so much bigger, they probably don't even need to wait that long, don't they have class anyway????? I know people who waited 4 hours outside for the OSU game here and sat 20 rows up in the upper level because our bleachers are so small.
