OT-Radio Cash??

Submitted by Ziff72 on
With Brian showing up on the radio lately like he's Brett Favre on ESPN, it brought up something I was curious about for a while. I assume Brian's going on the radio for free for a win-win getting the free advertising, but that may even be incorrect. I was curious what guys like Carty were paid to call in for 10 minutes each week. The Ticket never has any guests on, I assume they are doing that to save cash. During the season guys like Herbstreit or on every radio program in the country I would assume that he would be at the top of the pay scale if there is one. Anyone with some insight on what these guys get paid or how that whole thing works would be appreciated.

Most "name" ESPNR people are contractually obligated to do X amount of appearances. So yes, paid but not really directly from said appearances. Brian on the other hand...I would see (if he hasn't already) if the local stations would cough up an allotment of unused inventory for a schedule of appearances throughout the season. Much like tickets, if you don't fill them, they ain't worth shiiii.

The number may have changed a little since I've been out of the game for a few years. Stations i've worked for in the past have paid various amounts based on the guest. Pro athletes sign yearly contracts for several thousands of dollars a year. While reporters like Carty probably make no more than $100 a week.

He is most likely doing it for the website right now. However, I would bet money that he ends up with a regular spot somewhere where he gets paid. This is of course assuming he wants it.
