OT - PSU offers head coaching job to Vandy's James Franklin
Franklin is a PA guy and this would be a raise.
I worked with Franklin at Maryland. Personally, I think he'd be a great fit for the Redskns, but I can't fault a man for going "home."
However, like Strong, I question the fit. And not because of race, because of personality.
Franklin and RGIII would make a nice combo in DC which is close enough to Franklin's home and 15 minutes from where he used to work. Snyder is an idiot, but I actually think he's the one guy other than Kevin Sumlin that would work for the Redskins (assuming they keep RGIII for the next 7-10 years).

Pretty sure he said he would accept the job if/when offered. So I assume this means he will be the next Penn State coach.

Vandy's AD said he wasn't gonig to let him go without a fight. If he does go after the NFL, peobably little he can do. But with Penn State, he'll offer him a big raisse that'd pay more than Penn State's offer.

But he's not a "free agent" shopping around. Vandy is his current home and he's been building up that program. PSU has to convince him to walk away from that. That's a different kind of situation, and a lot of coaches decide in the end that they don't want to uproot their families and leave.

The local paper in Scranton had a direct quote from David Williams - Vanderbilt's AD - regarding that very thing (HERE). IN an interview with 104.5 FM in Nashville, Williams said:
"I'd shave my head (to keep Franklin)," Williams said, "and I'd give him the money I saved going to the barber shop." Despite the late meeting and job offer to Franklin, another day passed without a hire, a day after athletic director Dr. David Joyner reiterated his opinion from late last week that the search for the 16th Nittany Lions coach is "robust" and should be over in a matter of days.

Go blow yourselves

They've been trying to for at least the past 9 years

ESPN does that for them.

Why don't we just interview Chud? He's available and would probably take the job.

Should have had McDaniels, but your organization really screwed that one up too. Telling a candidate he is not the leading candidate, ha!

Did they really do that? Wow...every day i learn news ways to be stupid thanks to the Browns.

Actually Schwartz is looking more and more likely.
Actually he may be good for them. He made mistakes and unfortunately didn't seem to learn from them but he did help get us to a new level called mediocrity. Obviously a lot of that was due to improved talent and we don't know how much imput he had with that. What it comes down to is the Browns are running out of choices.

I don't think that's the best move for him. He's already a legend at Vandy, whereas at PSU he'd have to please the JoePa zealots, who apparently made Bill O'Brien's life hell. PSU also has two more years of sanctions, the lingering fallout from the Sandusky scandal (and the rape case could come back to haunt Franklin particularly at a school like this), and may in fact have less talent than Vandy right now.
PSU has more upside in the long run but I don't know if it's worth it. If I were him I'd ride it out awhile longer at Vandy until a big job with fewer issues comes up down the road.

Vandy has its own sexual assault worries from this past year. It remains the most criminally under-reported event in college sports.

Not under reported if you lived in Nashville. Besides the player(s) were arrested, then immediately kicked off the team and left school. No PSU type story to under report because it wasn't hidden or swept under the rug. Hardly "sexual assualt worries."

That's what I was referring to. If he comes to PSU, the case would probably be magnified in the media, if anything - the school that harbored a child rapist hiring a coach whose players are accused of rape.

He was talking to NFL teams a year ago and was also challenging his buyout, which PSU promptly lowered to get one more year out of him.
