OT: Props to our Canadian MGoBros and neighbors

Submitted by might and main on
There has been some tension here in the last few days between the USA MGoBros and our Canadian counterparts. I just wanted to throw out into the MGoSphere some props to our Canadian friends. Did anyone else see the Tom Brokaw piece on NBC Saturday evening regarding the good people of Gander, Newfoundland? They welcomed and cared for so many thousands of strangers, mostly Americans, on 9/11 and in the days that followed. The planes coming from Europe to the U.S. were diverted to land at Gander, nearly doubling and overwhelming the population of the community. The selflessness and generosity of those Canadians and how they took their American cousins into their homes, well it was pretty damn moving. Maybe it's just my increasing age, or maybe it was seeing the shock of 9/11 again on people's faces, but I got choked up watching it yesterday. So, while I hope we pull out the hockey gold today, here's props to our northern neighbors. Overall I think they've been great Olympic hosts, and bottom line, they're good people. And double bottom line here: we're all MGoBros in this place, and I like having the Canadian presence.

Symbolically a cousin or brother. Nothing wrong with some rivalry and/or some teasing back and forth, but just like the video above shows they are our strongest ally and friend (just like a brother or cousin). That said, I hope we blast those dirty maple huggers into submission this afternoon.

I've been involved in the smack talk as much as anybody, but I don't think any of us are taking it THAT seriously. You always want to beat you little brother, and put him in his place...and you always want to stick it to big brother. But let anybody ELSE try and fuck with them, and then it's ON!

Born in Canada to an American mother and a Canadian father. Lived in Canada until I was 12 and in the US after that. Am I torn? Hell no I'm not torn. When it comes to hockey, it's Canada all the way. Go Canada!

I just wanted to let you know, that even though our exchanges have been a little rough as of lately, I appreciate your knowledge of hockey, and the pride you take in your team and country. I still think we're gonna beat you though. :)

I think, from my view on tv, that the venues have been beautiful and all the athletes seem to be having a great time. I've watched more winter Olympics this time around then any other and I think that is to the credit of our neighbors. Congratulations and thanks.

Always considered Canada and Great Britain to be our two staunchest allies, by far. But of those two, I'd have to give the edge to Canada. Because it's incredibly difficult to drive to Great Britain for a night of spectacular gentlemen's entertainment.

They are just trying to make us soft with this propaganda. Can any of you actually say with a straight face that "Newfoundland" even exists? Sounds made up to me. And I definitely wouldn't be surprised to find out that snake in the grass Brokaw is really a closet Canuck. Just look at those beady little eyes. You think border security was tight in the Dakotas way back when? His family could have easily snuck across in an evil attempt to weaken our resolve in this, our hour of triumph. I for one will not be fooled by this maple-drenched treachery. U, S, and A!

Born in China, lived in Canada for 17 years and I'm a Canadian citizen. Senior now at the University of Michigan . . . So many conflicts of interests! Still, I have to cheer for my hockey team! CANADA!!!
