OT: Pro's and Coaches all over Florida

Submitted by TampaJake on

With the NFL lockout and the IMG workout facility here near Tampa it was an interesting night on Wednesday.

The Gulf Coast Officials Association was asked to assist Southeast High School in Bradenton with their inter squad scrimmage.  At the "game" were at least 4 Packers and Aaron Rogers (I didn't see him personally, he left right before I arrived) with some IMG guy.  Also present were several Nebraska coaches and a guy sporting Arkansas gear, taking notes and snapping pictures.

This Saturday and on the 27th, most Florida schools in the greater Tampa/Sarasota area have their spring games.  I get Venice at Southeast and a Cardinal Mooney game.

I might be peeking from my Back Judge or Umpire position to see if I spot any Michigan gear.  Are we recruiting any guys in the Tampa area?

QB Bennie Coney from Plant City,
ATH Nelson Agholor from Tampa,
DE Tyriq McCord from Tampa,
Brian Poole from Bradenton

I'm not an expert on Florida geography, so there might be a few other guys, too.

I'm not Magnus, but I'm guessing you are talking about Greg Kuhar from St. Edwards HS in Lakewood.  I'm not sure if it is true, but I heard we pulled the offers from the trio at that school.

I haven't seen any football film on him, so I don't know much.  He's a junior national champion wrestler in the heavyweight division, and those types of guys typically translate well (EDIT: especially on the O- and D-line) to football because they understand leverage and balance.  From what I know, he sounds like a NT prospect.

However, I too have heard that the Lakewood St. Edwards prospects had their offers pulled and/or were never offered to begin with.  The rumor is something shady, which I would rather not perpetuate.

I can't offer much more than that.  He hasn't really talked about his recruitment very much.

I'm about 2 miles from Plant High and I usually scout a couple of teams in the Tampa area....Plant, Armwood, Jesuit, and some others.  We need to crack this area and grabbing Posada this past season is a good start.  The talent on the I-4 corridor is pretty impressive but it doesn't help have UF two hours north and USF in the city.
