OT: Predictions For The Detroit Tigers' Season
From a reply in the thread below from XtraMelanin:
LSA, if i could create a thread, i would create one that was basically, OT - Predictions about the Tigers
This Year we have a lot of folks on this list that are astute baseball fans and i have seen that the tigers made a few moves in the off season and so far their record looks pretty good in spring training. it's a slow night on the board, so maybe many of the tiger fans would weigh in.
anyway, thus my request.
I would change the author on the post to allow him to edit this, but that has been problematic as well since even doing that doesn't allow the actual OP to edit the post right now.

I find it somewhat charming honestly. Nothing that you love is perfect all the time.
but no seriously, I think the Tigers can win 90-95 games this year and have a chance to win it all as long as the starters pitch up to their abilities and the BP is truly improved.
I think offensively we're gonna be a real problem for pitchers if we stay healthy.
Give me back my points that I worked so hard for by being a Michigan Fanatic!!!

Unfortuantely this season is going to once again rest on the shoulders of the bullpen. It seems like we'll put one of the better hitting lineups in baseball out there on a daily basis, combined with a pretty good starting rotation. The question will be, as in recent years, can the bullpen hold the lead and/or give us quality innings if the starter does struggle.
I think we'll challenge for the AL Central, but its just tough to really predict baseball. Shit just look at a team like the Astros last year...
93 wins. Wild Card. Lose in epic 7 game ALCS to Blue Jays who go on to beat the Giants in 6.

a couple more than a couple years

We weren't a game away, we dropped the series 4-2 in 2013. The difference in that series between us and Boston was the pitching staff, the bullpens for the most part.

Why do people overstate a manager's impact on the game? If a team is talented enough they'll win games. I think the Tigers are talented but with a lot of question marks.

A football coach's job is much different than a baseball manager's. Surely you know this.

I have. Sparky Anderson wouldn't have won with the multitude of issues the team dealt with last year.

Because the parts of the game that the manager makes the biggest impact in Ausmus sucks at.
He can not manage his pitchers; he leaves his starters in to long, can't use his bullpen properly and doesn't understand simple pitching matchups. Come on, they let their top pitching prospect throw 54 pitches in one inning. He's lost managing his arms.
What bullpen did he have though? He had 1, maybe 2 reliable bullpen arms last year. No manager could make that look good. People forget we won the division 2 years ago despite a down season from Miggy, a career worst season from Verlander, a career worst season from our $20 million closer and no other bullpen help. Last year we had literally no pitching and got no contributions from an injured V-Mart. People shouldn't be surprised that the team struggled.
It's no use responding to people like this. Don't you know that armchair managers and 12-year old little league coaches know more about managing a big league ball club than a guy that caught professionally for a couple decades?

I feel like we should put aside our Beilein/basketball issues aside for awhile, Stringer, because when it comes to the Tigers your opinion is music to my ears.
a long drawn out season of the same ole problems, lots of bitching, and not winning the WS. so the usual.

Nice, original take. You probably don't even know what Avila did in the off-season as far as the bullpen is concerned. (Go ahead, look it up). It's not the Yankee's bullpen, but it's improved and will probably be in the middle of the pack in the MLB (bottom third in the AL. AL is stacked with closers and good set-up guys.
