No Press Box option?

November 12th, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
I'd vote for press box.
If his true reason for leaving Florida was due to health concerns, I'd find it hard to believe to see the dude on the sidelines again, anywhere, let alone programs that are an absolute mess right now.
While your at it, better add North Carolina to the list of schools that are in shambles that would surprise me if Meyer considered for HC.
November 12th, 2011 at 8:42 AM ^
Why would he want part of either of those messes.

He stays on ESPN.
November 12th, 2011 at 8:47 AM ^
I agree with the above poster. Neither. But if it had to be one school I would say Penn State
November 12th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
He's already said he doesn't want the PSU job.
November 12th, 2011 at 8:48 AM ^
his kid's high school team.
note: he will still likely have a heart attack doing this, and then they will win the state championship in his honor.

OSU is going to be a solid program and contender no matter who coaches them. Once they get past their NCAA issues, OSU is going to be OSU, Meyer or not.
PSU has far greater issues right now than Meyer could even begin to make a difference at. But in the long run, PSU will be PSU, Meyer or not.
November 12th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
Osu was still osu but I liked John Cooper's osu more than Jim Tressel's
November 12th, 2011 at 9:00 AM ^
Ohio. Truly national power, recruiting base to work from, and no matter what came before, Urban Meyer's name and record will give him as close to carte blanche to do as he needs to win football games.
That said, he won't take either job.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:19 AM ^
since Penn St has knocked OSU from the front page (not that it was really still, or even, getting as much attention as it should), it kind of makes it more plausible that Meyer could slide into the OSU job. agree with the above that he probably won't take either, but it's more likely in my mind than before the Penn St scandal.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:01 AM ^
Tulane!
Oh sorry - wrong coach emeritus. My bad.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:11 AM ^
Given Meyer's recent track record with criminal activities in his program at Fla and given both OSU and PSU would benefit from/need to rehab their images I wonder if he fits at either.

Do we really need to go over the Wolverines rap sheet?

He left Florida because the pressure of winning impacted his health and his family! I would imagine the this pressure would increase immensely at Ohio State, his home state, or Penn State, replacing a coacing legend!
He would be a hypocrite if he returned to these pressure cookers!
Unless he viewed himself as the great white knight, or the White Shadow, coming to save the day!
November 12th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
I agree he may end up at PSU if he feels turning around would make turn him into this white knight or savior.
(Saving ND would do it, but with two recent coach failures it may be beyond someone with a previous reputation attempting.)
He really wants right now to get credit for turning a program around and the notoriety from that (that said..., his ties to Ohio and doing it @ OSU scare me a bit). IMHO though he waits for one of the very high prestige programs, I think he will wait for the UCLA job and all the LA/CA glitz that would come from that and then parlay it eventually to the NFL.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:17 AM ^
and a chance to play in the Rose Bowl, Meyer takes the Colorado job in 2013.

He has 4 years here. That is the common position. But next year is going to be ugly....what a rough schedule.

I was actually thinking this 2-3 years down the line.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
If he wanted to coach, he would never have left Florida. He said numerous times he couldn't give it 100%... That's why he stepped down. Give it a rest
November 12th, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
Neither. Urban won't coach another college team IMO.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:31 AM ^
I thnk he will eventually coach at one of those institutions. But not next fall. It'll be when his son graduates from high school.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:31 AM ^
There will be a major program WITHOUT a huge scandal that wants a legendary coach. That's where he'll go.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:39 AM ^
ESPN U.
November 12th, 2011 at 9:49 AM ^
I don't think urban will be coaching anywhere next fall ( I don't think he should return to coaching), but I do think we're forgetting about the substantial pride and ego's many of these top flight coaches have. These guys are among the greatest competitors and there is no way he doesn't look at those job openings as another challenge to win, win big, and cement his own personal hall of fame status, with another huge program.

Gotta go with the obvious choice I think. He'll take over the expansion team when the NFL moves to London. I mean how much stress on the heart can the London Silly Nannies cause?

The problems are terrible, but they are also uniquely non-football. No NCAA sanctions, &c.
November 12th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
PSU issues will be harder to overcome than NCAA sanctions,
November 12th, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
First of all, Meyer is easily in the top three of college coaches, if not the best coach flat out. Any program he goes to, PSU, OSU, whoever, will not only be a success, they will be a perennial top ten team. That is really not a matter of opinion, it's a fact based upon his record. IMO M fans should hope that he doesn't get a job in the B1G because that will make life even more challenging for us. Secondly, he has never ruled out a return to coaching, and in fact has said recently that he misses it. I think it's silly for people to dismiss the idea of him returning, and it's impossible to dismiss his ability.
November 12th, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
He is gonna shock the world
November 12th, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
Guys,
I understand that he's not likely to coach either. I personally don't think he'll coach either. However, that's not the question. Both fan bases are clamoring for Urban. So the question is PSU or OSU? Why can't you guys just answer the question. Even if it's 5% PSU and 15% OSU 80% Stay at ESPN. If that's the case...just say OSU!

November 12th, 2011 at 1:00 PM ^
Both schools are in a world of hurt... but tUoOS got hit with a "faulure to monitor" last week. State Penn is not in any NCAA trouble.
if Urban was smart, enjoy the ESPN gig. Your ticker cannot take the stress of either school's current situation.
November 12th, 2011 at 1:08 PM ^
He needs a return to a team that recruits nationally and isn't prone to scandal. Clearly he's going to MSU after Dantonio takes the OSU job.
November 12th, 2011 at 1:12 PM ^
I believe him when he says he is not interested in returning to coaching soon. I think it will be a few years until he comes back, if at all.
November 12th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
there going to clean house. that's going to make it a perfect scenario to bring in his own people and succeed. their are not very many chances to take over a good team.
