OT: Poll Shows Fans Believe Buckeyes Could Beat the Browns

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

A poll of Ohio voters - an actual scientific poll - shows that 62 percent of repondents think the Ohio State Buckeyes could beat the Cleveland Browns in a game of football. Only 23 percent picked the Browns. You'll find the poll and story here.

I'm of the belief that the worst NFL team would beat the best NCAA team by at least two touchdowns. Even the worst NFL team is bigger, faster and stronger.

The poll also showed that Urban Meyer is the second-most popular person in the state, behind only LeBron James. It didn't say where Harbaugh ranked.

would be pretty close in the same percentage of professional football players. Nearly 25% of NFL rosters are made up of undrafted players. I'm thinking both Urban and Nick are better at talent evaluation. However, I think on the two deep is where the difference would prevail and the Browns would probably win by a couple, maybe three scores.

Anybody who thinks it would be close is delusional. Vegas would set the line at 35 points. It would be higher but it's just a matter of when the NFL team sits its starters. The backups would still run the score up.

is eerily reminiscent of that around several OSU teams back in the 90s - the ones that we routinely beat. Same thing existed when I was a little boy around the '69 team - Woody Hayes's best.

I find it more interesting neither QB would start for the other team. No chance JT could start for the 2016 Browns, but equally no chance rookie and ex-USC starter Cody Kessler would start for 2016 OSU.

Browns by 50, though. Go Steelers.

JT could potentially find some success in the NFL as a QB, but it would not be with the Browns. QBs go there to die. Hell, I'm not even sure Brady would find success there with how poorly run that team is.

But back to Barrett, he would need to be surrounded with good talent and be brought along slowly with a veteran in front of him while he learned the ropes. Not inconceivable that he succeeds, given that short guys like Russell Wilson and Drew Brees have found a ton of success in the NFL.

But given the fact that he's coming from a spread system, I don't think he could be (realistically) counted on to carry a team by himself in his rookie year.

This is the same gang that spent a great amount of time observing on Eleven Warriors a few days back as to how Peppers could not start on a single position for the Buckeyes.

Oh sure, Urban just couldn't find a spot for him, yup.

Pretty much says it all.

The 0-16 Lions would wipe the floor with OSU. Even the 2015 OSU team when they finally got their act together and played to their potential. Those people are grossly misunderstanding the difference between professional and amateur athletes.

I'm sure half of OSU's starters this year will finish as all conference or All American players. Guess what? Everyone in the NFL was a frickin All American or all conference player. Everyone in the NFL was a star on their college team.

Doesn't matter if it's Michigan, Alabama, OSU, or Purdue. Every NFL team would absolutely annihilate any college team out there.

delusional people in that state. You are right on with your thinking the worse NFL team would kill the best college team. It's still a whole new level playing in the NFL and a college team could not hang.

Even their own, Chris Carter touched on this exact subject and said "no way in hell would the best ever college team, beat the worst ever Pro team"
He said, not only would they lose, but they would get crushed!!!

They also beat the greatest Green Bay Packers team in 1963.

These games weren't the worst NFL teams v college all stars, they were the NFL champions vs college all stars, and they happened every year until the mid 70s, so that's into the Super Bowl era.

If you look into it, the games were often pretty close, and every so often the college team won.

Now, no doubt the pro teams weren't taking it all that seriously in comparison to league games, but they do say something, and the college teams had never played or trained to gether before; they were like today's college all star games. Just a bunch of guys.

All that said, I think there'd be a lot of guys potentially hurt, and ended careers, and it's no wonder that NFL-bound players didn't want to risk their careers on such games.

I think you'd find a lot of Michigan voters would 'vote' that Michigan could beat the Lions out of a sarcastic displeasure with how pathetic the pro team is

Lol! I would love to see the buckeyes play Cleveland. The Browns would do awful filthy terrible things to tosu. It would be men vs boys, and I doubt the kids from cbus would even get into fg range once.

No way in hell....an NFL defensive line would destroy a college offensive line and that is where the game would be lost. There would be no time to pass and no room to run. Browns may be a terrible NFL team, but even terrible NFL teams are made up of the best college players (depending on how well a team drafts of course).

I am probably one of the few people on this blog that enjoy the NFL more than college. Obviously, my heart lies with Michigan, but as a sport I just prefer the talent of the NFL way more than the 66-3 college scores (yes...that was an exaggeration).

An OSU vs. Browns game would be an absolute blood bath. The shit you can get away with in the NFL is simply not tolerated in college; and, both the speed and athleticism simply don't compare.

There was a post yesterday's out a high school team that forfeited due to the other team's size. I couldn't quite get it at a high school level, but I would totally understand in this case. The number of injured bodies on the floor would be difficult to tally.

These hypotheticals are so dumb. Here's one...does anyone think a high school could beat college football team? Fuck no...so why is it any different for college vs pro?

FatGuyTouchdown

I actually think a couple high school teams could win a game over a college team. Bishop Gorman, IMG Acadamy, St Thomas Aquinas all have an incredible amount of talent. Even if you exclude IMG for obvious reasons, Bishop Gorman has 3-4 players that would get significant playing time at most schools. Bottom of the barrel FBS teams don't have that. Could be wrong, and maybe you're not inferring basic all star teams as high school teams.

the only way possible is if the third string qb is playing a franchise college qb, aside from all the other conditions needed, including luck. and that would still be one game in five

Never happen. Wouldn't be close. Several current Buckeyes will make the NFL, but EVERY Brown made the NFL. Browns would crush the Buckeyes. They'd crush Michigan. They'd crush a team made of the best Buckeyes and Wolverines.

It is like guys thinking they can beat the 12th or 11th guy on in NBA bench.

The Browns are indeed awful relative to the rest of the NFL but they would crush the Buckeyes. Probably the last time a really good college team could really stand up to  NFL team had to be in the 1940's.

Completely forgot about that game. It was for some charity but ended up getting cancelled because of too many injuries if I recall right (back in the 1970s?) But usually the college teams were not close. Today with the sophisticated blitzes and the limited time of the college team, whomever plays QB would get put out of the game..

No college team could beat an NFL team. Alabama wouldn't cross the 50 against the Lions (or Browns) because an NFL d-line would own the backfield and the corners would blanket college wide outs with ease. The physical and athletic advantage is so wide its crazy. Look at the difference from FBS to FCS or even within conferences between the top 3-4 teams to the bottom.

These polls are more about just dogging the awful NFL than anything else and they're just for fun.

That game would be a lot more competitive than the majority of this comment section thinks, especially with last year's OSU team.

A train wreck of an NFL franchise can lose to an elite well coached college team. They just never actually play, so it's too easy to bow to the almighty NFL and say it's impossible.

As stated before on here, don't be surprised if the Badger bed shitters give the suckeyes their first loss. I don't think they can beat the Browns. They are one or two injuries away of key players from being in a world of hurt.
