For who or what draft pick?  If it was for draft picks, then that is dumb.  We have Jennings and it is not like this team is going to win it all this year.

Wow Thunder made some power moves this deadline. Kantor, Augustin and Singler... they actually have a bench.

Heat got Dragic! Oh shit.

Crazy day.

This trade doesn't make sense. Augustine had a great contract. Jackson is a free agent after this year. What are you going to do then? Jennings still had another year as well.

Head scratcher.

Not loving this.  Augustin was a very good player for the Bulls last year and the Pistons this year, and on a bargain of a contract through the end of next season.  Time will tell, I suppose.

but he has a lot of limitations.  For one, he was pretty bad before Jennings went down.  Also, due to his size, he is extremely limited on defense.  Jackson is big enough to lock down the best PGs in the league.  I get that Jackson can't really shoot, but he's one of the best pick-and-roll guards in the NBA.  Should make for a terrifying PnR combo with Drummond.

McGary will play both the 4 and 5. They lost Perkins, so it won't take too much away from him. He's already shown his skills in OKC so they'll find some time for him. Next season will be very interesting. He will probably take more from Collison as he moves toward old man status.

I kind of like this move. Singler is totally expendable, and we're selling high on Augustin.

Even if we don't re-sign Reggie and he leaves at the end of the year it's not a total loss.

This trade is great for several reasons... First, the Pistons were in dire need of a guard that could create is own shot/offense after Jennings went down. Second, Reggie isn't a true PG, he's a combo guard with more size than a true PG that is shoot first, a lot like Westbrook, which is why they didn't mesh well together on the floor. And no, I'm not comparing him to Westbrook athletically or overall talent wise, just saying their mindsets are similar. Third & fourth, the Pistons are fighting and clawing for one of the final 2 playoff spots & Reggie Jackson wants to get a big contract somewhere to start and be a team's first or second option... This means he will play his ass off for the team, and if it works out, Detroit is in the playoffs and Reggie is on his was to a sizable payday and the role he desires. If the Pistons aren't the team able to resign him, it'll open up more cap space next season, which is never a bad thing.

Well, with Steven Adams out with a broken finger and trading Perkins, the Thunder really couldn't afford to go without a big man with some experience.  They do have Nick Collison, but expecting a rookie just coming off an injury to step up and hold down the fort in the middle is unrealistic.

At least you Pistons fans have a plan.. the Sixers are just emphasizing the tank...

Kind of a bummer to lose Augustin.  He played well for the Bulls last season, and again when Jennings went down, and he was cheap.  I would have been more inclined to ride it out at the PG spot this season, since I think they have a decent chance at the playoffs anyway.  With their record, the best the Pistons can realistically hope for is the 6 seed trade or no trade, so I don't really see the upside in giving up cheap assets for what will likely be a rental.  We were going to have the cap space either way.

with Jackson restricted, the Pistons can wait to see how Jennings progresses before matching an offer. augustin is a very good backup and he's done well since Jennings went down. but the Pistons arent going anywhere with him as the full-time starter, this year or any other. i didnt want to lose jonas, but at this point it seems pretty obvious that SVG has been thinking about adding another legit pg for a while given BJs uncertainty. freeing money via prince is directly connected to resigning RJ id guess.

Most commentators here in Oklahoma are glad to see Jackson gone.  Some described him as a cancer to the team, and almost all the talking heads complained about his effort on defense.

I do think a different team will help both the Thunder and Jackson.  Part of his problem seemed to be he didn't want to be a role player.  I don't know how that will play out for the Pistons, but it did not work out at all with the Thunder.

Jackson's biggest issue was that he wanted to start. With one of the top 5 players in the league playing ahead of him that wasn't a possibility. He'll be the starting PG in Detroit, and he seems absolutely thrilled at the proposition.

Some guys can handle being the 6th man. Some guys have too much pride. He might be a headcase. He might be just the guy the Pistons need to propel them into the playoffs.

The Pistons have always been a home for misfit toys and reclamation projects other teams deemed headcases or "talented but not worth the trouble." Maybe this is another one of those stories.

Regardless, we didn't have to give up much to get him. We sold high on DJ Augustin, and dumped Singler and a 2nd round pick in 2017. It's also a smart play, because we get his RFA rights, which could help us going forward. We can now focus on the Monroe versus Draymond Green scenario that it appears will ultimately dictate the future of the franchise. I could go into further detail, but this post is long enough.

I really don't understand how people don't like this trade. I see nothing but upside from it. Singler was a solid role player but he has always been expendable. Im a bit surprised by the Augustin love. He is real solid in a backup PG role and his contract wasnt bad. That being said his game has serious limitations. He struggles hard to finish around the rim; is barely shooting 40% this season.

Jackson is a risk but but the potential is certainly there. As someone mentioned before he is a really, really good pick and roll guard. Him and Drummond have a chance tp develop some real nice chemistry. We really need someone who can create his own shot with Jennings out. If he sucks it up we lost some replaceable parts. But who knows, maybe he emerges as the guy.

Because Jackson shoots 27% from three and needs five additional shot equivalents to produce the same point totals roughly as DJ. His rebounding is light years better but can we agree that rebounding is not a problem for the pistons. Maybe his defense is better if he chooses to be a willing defender. But he seems Stuckey 2.0 ish to me. I sincerely hope that's not true but time will tell
