I'd expect ESPN to have someone following him around for the next few years for his unretirement update. Normally I'd say Chris Mortenson, but IIRC the poor guy has stage iv throat cancer.

I remember waking up in the dorms, watching sports center so long it would repeat itself multiple times. (Of course that was so long ago SC ended with, did you know...) but now, I never turn it on anymore. any info I need now is a few clicks away. And yes the Peyton show might go on for the next week. But just wait till next season starts. It will start back up too. Oh well, at least he's gone and we can get this love fest over with.

I've had ESPN on as background noise since 7:30, or so - nothing but Manning, literally.  No, seriously - 'literally' is the correct word, literally!  It's like all other sports have stopped playing.  Ughh...  Great QB, but not that great.  When you're remembered as much as a choking dog as for the two SB's you've won, something is wrong.  He got to play the worst SB team in history (Lovie's Bears had no business in a SB) for the first, and had the best defense in football (by a mile) for the second.  Granted, he still had to play the game and move the offense for points, but sheesh...

Well, maybe the worst SB team in history were the Patriots version that got eaten alive by Ditka's Bears.  But either way...

I'm picturing ESPN's core audience glued to the TV and listening with rapt attention to all things Peyton.

If ESPN can get their audience to watch people playing cards, they can probably hold them to the TV for all things Peyton(!) / Kobe(!) / LeBron(!) for many hours.

It's their world; we just happen to live in it.

About time. When you cant throw the ball more than 20 yards and your spirals are looking like ducks, time to hang it up. I'll enjoy watching Brady beat all of his regular season records to eliminate any doubt on who is the GOAT.

Probably best for him. When you can't throw the ball more than 15 yards downfield anymore it's probably time to call it quits.

Denver's defense won that Super Bowl. Manning was just along for the ride.

By retiring it allows the NFL to quietly bury the HGH story. This story was a bigger threat than the Tennessee story to Manning's reputation going forward.

Good God, some people still view #ESPNsucks as more than a PR machine for ratings?? And if you think it's bad now with the Manning announcement, wait until the goo-filled studios in Bristol when Brady makes the same announcement. Ugh. Unbearable the way ESPN shoves guys like LeBron, Brady, Manning and others down our collective throats.

Except they'll spend half the time debating if Brady's patriots should have asterisks by their SBs due to a supposedly underinflated football. How do I know that? Bc they've been doing that for years already, despite how many records he breaks or game he wins. And even if they can't prove he's done anything wrong, they'll instead say how talented his teams have been or how great Bill Belichek is. Brady has become their favorite villain that also is too good to completely deny.
