OT: Peter Gammons to MLB Network

Submitted by Smitty D on

Kinda surprised. Gammons has been the face of ESPN baseball for 20 years.

F espn. every day i wish there was another sports channel option other than them. i wish cnn would fill the void and have some sort of sports illustrated channel or something.

I'm kinda surprised that FSN has yet to create some sort of rival to ESPN so far, with all the other content and whatnot.

A CNN-SI creation wouldn't even need to be an entire network. CNN or CNN Headline News could use an hour or so less of the blow-hard political pundits in exchange for some upstanding sports pundits.

I grew up watching Peter Gammons on ESPN. I don't get the MLB Network, and even if I did, I wouldn't watch it much. I can leave ESPN on pretty much any time of day (unless they're doing horse racing or Indy/stock car racing), but I can't watch any single sport-focused channel for too long.

I always liked the combo of Karl Ravech, Peter Gammons, and Harold Reynolds. Now 2/3 of that "Baseball Tonight" crew is gone.

Magnus, I hear ya on that and I think lots of people miss that trio (Gammons, Ravech, Reynolds it was the best by far. Well 2 of the 3 will be on MLB Network now, and unless the producers are complete gimps they'll have Gammons and Reynolds together.

I actually watched MLB network quite a bit and they have a real good show especially with the in-game, live commentary from the studio crew. Can't wait to hear that same type of analysis/commentary coming from Peter and Harold. I like!

FSN sucks. I hate that network. Every single announcer seems like a douchebag, and I can't stand Chris Rose, their do-everything talking head. Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, Rob Dibble... Every guy who appears on Fox or FSN baseball shows annoys me.

Hopefully Gammons' presence can help the MLB Network avoid falling to the level of Kruk-ian analysis. Like many folks I know, I used to love Baseball Tonight before it plummeted off a cliff.

then bravo. But if they replace Gammons (who, clearly, is awesome - no disrespect intended to him) with a meathead former player (to add to their already "impressive" stable), then this will be a massive downgrade.
