OT: The Penn State Exodus Officially Begins (Former PSU Safety Tim Buckley commits to NCSU)
The first of what will likely be many PSU players is reported to have commited to another team. Safety Tim Buckley has transferred to NC State. Other players, such as Bolden and Redd have been reported as on their way out, but there has been no confirmation yet. The next week should be interesting for anyone following PSU football to see whether there is just a trickle of players leaving or a tsunami.
I just read that [Rob] Bolden was released of his scholorship on Monday.
[ED:BISB - Edited to avoid confusion about Joe. Joe is staying. All is well with Joe.]
and 5 times more than it should have taken.
The reality is Penn State isn't full of bluechippers that every school is falling over themselves for. When I took a look at their squad there were 1 or 2 players that I thought could help us.
I understand a Purdue or Indiana may not be at the same level as us but even then there may only be a few more players they would have an interest in. Would you rather bring in a recruit who is still full of promise and high expectations or someone who has been molded by someone else who hasn't managed to crack the playing rotation.
Some of these lesser players may be from Pennsylvania and have always wanted to play for Penn State. They may be close to home so their family and friends can watch them play. They may see a few of the top guys leaving as a chance to get more playing time. When you add in the peer pressure to stay I just don't see a huge mass exodus taking place.
Well that makes two. Redd is supposed to anounce this afternoon after meeting with Bill O'Brien. Redd is the only sure starter / star I've heard named as a possible transfer, but Fort was definitely in the mix for starting time. We really don't know how many more there are. About a half dozen names have floated around as possible transfers. If that's the extent of it, it shouldn't create any huge holes in their two deep, but if the number starts creeping up to ten or more, that could be difficult for them to overcome.
It was just reported that Redd to USC will happen. Here's a link:

I guess we can rule out Redd as the object of Helmhold's tweet about something good for B1G teams then. Still no surprises so far. Everyone who's left are ones who've been discussed as possible transfers, but Redd to USC is a huge loss for PSU.
