Yeah, I was wondering about the source. I have no idea if it is credible or not, but I haven't heard of it before. And if it's just some dude with a blog (rather than a reporter with access), presumably he's pulling his info from other sources--but none are mentioned. All of that raises some red flags for me.

You know, I always thought that Plattdeutsch looked a bit funky when it was written out due to the lack of a standard orthography, but then I can only say so much as I grew up with Hessian spoken in the house and that doesn't sound much like the literary German that people learn in school either.
