and although a double was given up, Verlander avoiding the all too common first inning run or three.  Good start.  Can't wait to see what Kinsler does in his first game as a Tiger.

From the radio broadcast sounds like JV is missing everything away and isn't challenging anyone inside. Also don't be surprised if Andrew Romine is the everyday shortstop at some point this season, Gonzalez just doesn't seem like he'll hold up, especially if he can't make the routine plays.

I see Austin Jackson and Alex Avila are in mid-season form. Might give Jackon the benefit of the doubt on his since it was a bad call, but tough to take that with a runner on 3rd and 1 out.

Very piss poor attempt to catch that one there by Nick. First big league game and you're afraid of the padded railing? Maybe count your steps next time. Lucky that Verlander bailed you out.

I'm sure he'll get more used to it, but all warning tracks are the same size, and before every game you're supposed to go out and act like you're tracking a foul ball to see how many steps until you're at the wall. I'm assuming he just got the yips a little bit there.

1-0.

Not that it ultimately mattered there -- but I might have IW'd Gonzo to set up the force at home, even though a ground ball would have ended the inning because there was a runner on first, too. Anyway...nice to get a W on Opening Day.
