OT - Ohio State CB Eli Apple declares for the NFL draft

Submitted by Scarlatina on

Source.

Currently projected as the 6th best CB in the draft and a 2nd-to-3rd rounder.

6th underclassmen to declare for Ohio State behind Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott, Cardale Jones, Darron Lee, and Tyvis Powell.

Still waiting on word from WR Michael Thomas, S Vonn Bell, and WR Jalin Marshall.

OSU losing a bunch of players to the NFL is a doubled edged sword.  Yeah, it's good they won't be playing for OSU, but if OSU breaks the record for NFL picks (which I think they already hold) it will only throw more fuel on their recruiting fire.

We want them to lose enough players, but not break the record.

What the hell difference does it make if they break some record like that or not? They're going to recruit at a high level no matter what happens.

I'd rather they send a bunch of guys off to the league and be really young and inexperienced next year. Or to at least start off that way anyway.

You are correct, Ohio State broke the record with 14 players drafted in 2004.

They currently have 12 “draftable” players in: Joey Bosa, Taylor Decker, Ezekiel Elliott, Michael Thomas, Darron Lee, Adolphus Washington, Vonn Bell, Eli Apple, Joshua Perry, Braxton Miller, Nick Vannett, and Cardale Jones

Plus, 9 more "draft-eligible" players in Chase Farris, Jacoby Boren, Camren Williams, Jeff Greene, Tommy Schutt, Jack Willoughby, and Joel Hale. Most likely 2-3 at most get drafted from that 2nd group.

The 2004 NFL Draft also set the record for most players drafted in the 1st round, which is 6 from the Miami Hurricanes. Ohio State currently has 3 projected 1st rounders in Bosa, Zeke, and Decker with 3 players with 1st round potential in Michael Thomas, Adolphus Washington and Darron Lee.

Eli Apple changed his name in high school to his stepfather's family name because his biological father walked out on his family when he was born, so...

"A wise man once stated, 'Fatherhood is not biology. Fatherhood is responsibility.' From the time I was two years old my dad, Timothy Apple, has been my father. He's nurtured, provided, and protected our family. I am the man I am today because of his tireless love, and commitment to our family. So it is with great pride and honor to carry his last name. I am truly blessed to be Eli Apple. Go Bucks!"

-Eli Apple

Eli also said that his biological father doesn't deserve any credit for the things he was going to accomplish at Ohio State and beyond.
