OT: Noted ND alum Mike Golic has a sad

Submitted by Eye of the Tiger on

Apparently Mike Golic turns a peculiar shade of Fightin' Irish green whenever he thinks about soon-to-be-former partner Mike Greenberg's new TV contract.

LINK.

Not quite as high on the "you're embarrassing yourself" scale as Brandon Jacobs' recent comments, but pretty funny nonetheless.

It's not even news. It's just a random opinion piece anyone from MGoBlog could have written. There is very little news/fact and a lot of prodding and schadenfreude - he's making fun of a guy who lost his job and isn't PC about it. Even though he wasn't embarrassing or disrespectful about it either. He just didn't have an elegant response. Ironically, wasn't that the whole point of putting him with Greeney?

Actually, "Yost," he didn't "lose his job."  His partner got promoted and he didn't.  But if you had read the piece, you would see that they even gave his "relatively inexperienced" son a job on the new show.

Nobody lost a job and Golic is breaking "the code."  When someone from ND "breaks the code" instead of being thankful for having his broadcast partner carry his ass for around 20 years, it's good OT AFAIC.

The only issue I have is that the news is a bit old.

He lost the show...not his job. You are also correct.

However, where is all the bad mouthing? He doesn't have to be all PC about it. He didn't say anything THAT bad. You all are acting like he went on some "I'm a MAN! I'M 40!" level rant.

He just didn't give the PC "I'm thankful for the time we had and look forward to the next opportunity" bullshit.

It cracks me up how people watch these folks on TV and want to hear their opinion and want them to be "real"...then in times like this you want them to be a robot. I'm sorry, it's not how it works.

The article was trash, if that offends you - so what. I don't even like Golic, I think his time has passed just like the two on PTI. I know exactly what they're going to say and their schtick is boring to me. I hate ND so if I can get a honest shot to get some ribbing in - I'll take it. This ain't it.

This is a thread about an article about nothing. So what, Mike Golic didn't give your classic "thankful" response. He didn't go off the deep end either as the article and the OP leads you to believe. His reaction is pretty human, maybe not for me, maybe not for you...but there are plenty of people who'd respond the same way and it may not be the best way (to you) - but it's far from the worst way (to any of us).

Brian Kelly berating a 19 year old, AGAIN, is worth pointing and laughing and shaking my head...this is worth that shrug emoji and a "moving on."

1.  you are right, that was a totally off-season post. it wouldn't occur to me in 1.000 yrs to post that during football season

2.  nevertheless, it was a pretty well-received post.  so, you know, there's been way worse dogs than that.

3.  confession:  we have a barn cat who i accurately describe as 'hell on wheels'.  he is held in high regard around the farm, including by me and my bird dog.   he won't ever live a day of his life inside, but i dig that cat (and he digs us).

I had 3 toms coming straight to me. I had cover at the edge of a patch of woods and the birds had steadily moved up a field's gentle slope toward me until I could see their heads and their fans maybe 30 yards away. Easy shot right? Problem was I couldn't see behind them. They hung up there for about 15 minutes. I'd catch glimpses of their heads and fans and wait and call a little. Then they were gone. Finally I belly crawled out into the field to the top of the undulation. There they were, 200 yards away in the center of the field with about 7 hens who decided to have their own party and wreck mine. Love turkey hunting.

not as smart as a turkey?   jk

calling and stalking turkeys is big fun and very sporting.  they have exceptional eyesight, matched only by their cousin the eagle.  since in michigan you can't hunt them with a rifle (we could've taken a half dozen today if that were legal -and glad it is not), you have to get them within about 30 yds or less to pull the trigger.   my oldest son took his first turkey at just over 40 yds which is a heck of a shot.  i would've passed on it but he pulled the trigger.

and have never heard of that happening anywhere, not once.   please provide citation to authority.  not sure how it could be any more risky than taking a walk in the woods, which is more likely to generate lyme's disease than, say, being on a computer of course, but nothing special.

While the Greenie/Golic story is a bit old, some of the addtional details in that article were new to me.  I also found a lot of other interesting things to read from that Daily News link regarding the sports media.

If you're gonna post something so meaningless, then at least fix the subject title so it makes sense...

It's a non-story. Greenberg is moving on to better things; Golic is blindsided and left without a gig.  That we already knew.

Greenberg said something complimentary; Golic sent out a cryptic tweet. Stop the presses!

I'm reasonably familiar with the English language, but what does ".....the faculty, now operating from the balls of their butt after massive layoffs..." mean exactly?

Total non-story made into a story as are thousands of non-stories a day by the endless sea of hack journalists empowered by the interwebs.

For all its glory, the internet has done a terrific job of diluting two important media - news and music.

Now every hack with a DAW or guitar or delusions of journalistic grandeur clouds the landscape with mediocrity, making it ever harder for true talented professionals to have their excellence and integrity rise above the ever increasing white noise of mediocrity and desperation around them.

Face it - so much music is utter shit now, as is so much journalism.
