OT: New Way to Lose for Lions

Submitted by Gavia immer_MI on

Tate scores go ahead TD with 0:08s to go, but is ruled down just shy of goal ine. Because it was reviewed with less than 0:10s remaining in the game, a 10s runoff is in effect, ending the game. Unbelievable. How many different ways can this team lose a game?

Between the officials blowing multiple calls on the final drive, and the players disrespecting the flag, and the organizations as a whole disrespecting the flag, I have decided to not watch anymore NFL football, for a long time I would watch every game I could, probably 5 a week, but not anymore. They have gone off the edge.

I'm all for free speech (which i believe is what the anthem thing is), but it's starting to piss me off. At least Kaepernick, whether you agree with him or not had a cause. Now it's just become a homogenous middle finger to...who now? Trump i guess? Is it still about police brutality because there's certainly no discernable message out there. It's just like it's the new anti-salute to our nouveau tribalism and it's becoming a mockery of itself.

I think what really set me off was seeing Villanueva standing out there completely alone for the anthem. Not a single teammate had his back.

Kneeling is a sign of respect-

some might say a deeper sign of respect than standing. It's just different. An individual should have the right- if not the moral obligation- to express one's opinion and calling attention to ways the flag/anthem/military/government/country (which have been conflated in a dubious way) do not yet live up to their stated ideals or potential.

What a dumb ass rule. Basically you are deciding the game instead of the players. It's not Detroit's fault you reviewed it Detroit should get the ball and the clock starts on the whistle.

if the refs call him down the first time, the clock runs and we scramble to get off a final play. Instead, the refs make the wrong call (at least according to them), so they have to review their decision and steal our time. If you're arguing he was down then the refs fucked us by getting it wrong and penalizing us with a run off. I'm not sure if he was down or not but either way the Lions got screwed by the refs.

That was awful. What kind of a rule is that. It was not a penalty to run the clock off. Lions got hosed. I can't blame them for this one. They played well.

I am fuming. First, he was never even down. Right when it looks like a knee would go down normally, he lurches his body up when it’s a centimeter or so off the ground.

Second, he never even had control of the ball when the phantom “down” would have happened. He finally had it at the goal line. Obviously, this doesn’t even matter because he was never down in my mind.

Third, that absolute trash rule that will surely be changed after the season. If he were called short by the refs at first, we would have had another chance. It was only the refs calling a TD that took that opportunity away and then the rule taking the game away.

Such. Fucking. Garbage.

Rule, only the NFL would have a bullshit rule like that. Can you imagine if that's how a Super Bowl ended? A team at the 1 yard line and then a 10 second run off? Total horse shit

Left knee was down and the ball is a few inches short. Get over it, the lions had their chances and they couldn’t capitalize. Stop grasping for the refs to help you out. Golden Tate was down no touchdown and the runoff rule has been in effect for a while. Throw the ball in the endzone next time or run the ball like good teams do.
