OT: Myron Rolle Interview

Submitted by MichTits on
ESPN FirstTake interview with Myron Rolle. I have always been very impressed with him as a person. He is very level-headed, as you would expect from a Rhodes Scholar, and wants to be known for changing the world for the better, as well as being a successful NFL player. Although I didn't really follow recruiting much in 2006, my understanding is that he was the #1 overall prospect out of HS and also considered Michigan late in the recruiting process. It would have been great to have had such a great person and player on UM campus for 3 years, although he still acheived great things in his time at FSU and Oxford. I hope good things for him, and can't wait to watch him on sundays. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5113349

I do like him quite a bit. I saw some projections early this year that had him in the 6-7 round range, but it looks like he's up to a rd. 4-5 projection now. If the Lions can figure out a way to trade their incresing stockpile of 7th round picks to get him, I'd be all for it.

He is the idiot who decided to go to Florida State because they had a superior BUSINESS SCHOOL. Somehow he bought some line of crap that Michigan's Business School isn't...you know...amongst the absolute best in the nation. Yes I'm still bitter. Hope going to Florida State "for the academics" pays off buddy.

As many of you have pointed out, he was the surgeon. The one who opted to go to another school was a Notre Dame recruit, and at the time, Notre Dame's undergraduate Business School rankings paled in comparison to ours. I can't for the life of me remember the guy's name- if somebody would like to remind me it is appreciated. I apologize if recruiting stories have blurred over the years- I first began following it about 10 years ago and there are only so many reasons recruit opt to not go to Michigan. With that said, congratulations to him and his Rhodes Scholarship. That doesn't change the fact that he opted to go to a school with the 79th ranked medicine program (http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools…) rather than Michigan, which boasts the 14th ranked Primary Care school and 6th ranked Research school. I reserve the right to feel bitter when the reason given is "academics" and that contradicts all the published sources. I wish he would have just said it how it was- he wanted to live in the warmer weather around Jenn Sterger. I don't hate recruits for choosing other schools, but If they opt to share a reason, I prefer for it not to be a BS line. And sorry, I am not a B schooler. If you read a few of my previous posts (especially the favorite professor/classes threads of a month ago) you would fine my major is in a technical field.

this 'individualized program' would have been for a pre-medicine major? Seeing as the majority of the pre-med students at Michigan take many classes that have large enrollments and thus multiple sections, I don't see how somebody playing football would require such an individualized program- certainly there are pchem and orgo and MCDB classes and all that other crap that doesn't conflict with football practice times! So, to be clear, you are suggesting that "going to Florida State for the academics" is a statistically sound claim because he was going to receive an alleged individualized program of some sort? To me, that sounds like (and please, correct me if I'm wrong, as I am sure you will) they are simply letting him earn a major without prereqs required of other students. That is hardly superior academics. PS: I assume you are referring to this thread, which was posted 6 months before I even joined? http://mgoblog.com/content/rolle-going-oxford Relax dude. I'm sorry I don't have a constant index of every comment of every MGoBoard post over the past year. But I find it ironic you have such frustrations with my exception to his claim that FSU had superior academics when many in the above cited thread had the same feelings.

Yes I'm still bitter. Hope going to Florida State "for the academics" pays off buddy. I assume you're joking, and this is a reference to the famous Bouje thread. If so, well played. If not, good lord.

The guy's a freaking Renaissance Man. And he gets my Jewish vote for 1) having played the lead in Fiddler on the Roof and 2) having a brother named Mordecai.

Myron Rolle is an athlete actually worth respecting as a person. A quote from Rolle: "Cool to me is getting straight A's. Cool to me is scoring three touchdowns. Cool to me is shaking the hand of our mayor. Cool to me is helping out at the nursing home. Cool to me is playing in the jazz band, and playing the lead role in 'Fiddler on the Roof."
